Little became minister <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Beaum<strong>on</strong>t Street society, Gainsborough,<br />

where <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong>e entry in its register, <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> a baptism at his hands, is dated<br />

<strong>on</strong> 5 December, 1817 Here he remained for a short time, preaching <strong>on</strong><br />

20 December, 1818, a serm<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> " Death and a Future Life," which, says<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> M<strong>on</strong>th& R@ository*-<br />

we fear we must accept this as a farewell serm<strong>on</strong>, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> author being <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

point <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> removing to America. Whe<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r he exercises his pr<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>essi<strong>on</strong> or not<br />

in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> United States, he will, we are persuaded, c<strong>on</strong>tinue in <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> service <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

Just before sailing he preached <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> sec<strong>on</strong>d <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> two Dudley Double<br />

Lectures, <strong>on</strong> Whit Tuesday, I June, 1819, from <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Psalmist's words :-<br />

For Thou hast made Him a little lower than <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> angels, and hast crowned<br />

He established himself at Washingt<strong>on</strong>, where, says his biographer+-<br />

he succeeded in raising en Unitarian c<strong>on</strong>gregati<strong>on</strong> in that city, which was<br />

h<strong>on</strong>oured with <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> countenance <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Mr. Adams, <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> President <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> United<br />

States, and o<str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g>r members <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Government, and <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> Legislature.<br />

He died in August, 1827, at Harrisburg, where he had g<strong>on</strong>e from<br />

Washingt<strong>on</strong>-<br />

<strong>on</strong> a journey <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> recreati<strong>on</strong> and health with his family ;<br />

and where he preached <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>the</str<strong>on</strong>g> last Sunday, not more than 48 hours before<br />

his death.
