Very little is known <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> first two meeting-houses <strong>of</strong> this society, which was founded in 1692, owing to <strong>the</strong> Old Meeting building being <strong>of</strong> insufficient size to accomtnodate <strong>the</strong> increasing number <strong>of</strong> nonconformists who desired to worship in it. If any earlier records, o<strong>the</strong>r than <strong>the</strong> registers, existed, <strong>the</strong>y probably perished in <strong>the</strong> riots and burning <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> meeting- house in 1791. The minute books <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Vestry Committee and Trustees *Deritend = Der-yat-end, i.e,, End nigh <strong>the</strong> deer gate. cf.
