<strong>DRR</strong> Annual Progress Report 2010, Vol.1 – Varietal Improvement<br />

Of the 9 locations where experiment was conducted under rainfed direct seeded conditions 6<br />

locations viz., Ranchi, Rewa, Jagdalpur, Tuljapur, Vyara and Derol received normal and well<br />

distributed rainfall, hence discussed separately.<br />

IET 20859 (CRR 616-B-2-66-2) derived from the cross Vandana/APO, ranked 1 st with<br />

mean yield 3320 kg/ha, 69 days 50% flowering duration and short bold grains. It yielded 36.9%,<br />

32.0% and 66.58% higher than the national, regional and local checks, respectively. It showed<br />

significantly higher yield than all the checks at Jagdalpur (3309 kg/ha, 1 st ) and Vyara (5920 kg/ha,<br />

1 st ) and to national and regional checks at Tuljapur (4127 kg/ha 9 th ) and Derol (2279 kg/ha, 1 st ). In<br />

region 3 and 4 it yielded 25.35% and 36.51% higher than the best checks, respectively. While in the<br />

states <strong>of</strong> Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat with yield superiority <strong>of</strong> 37.15% and 29.41% over best<br />

check, respectively. It had high head rice recovery (69.2%), high ASV (6.0) and intermediate AC<br />

(24.30%). It has moderate resistance to Neck Blast.<br />

IET 20871 (CRR 427-21-BL-2), derivative <strong>of</strong> the cross Vandana/WAB-56-50, ranked 2 nd<br />

under normal rainfall conditions with mean yield <strong>of</strong> 2923 kg/ha, 68 days <strong>of</strong> 50% flowering duration<br />

and short bold grains. It yielded 20.5%, 16.2% and 46.7% higher than the national, regional and<br />

local checks, respectively. It’s yield was significantly higher to all the checks at Jagdalpur (2558<br />

kg/ha, 3 rd ) and Vyara (5080 kg/ha, 2 nd ). It also yielded significantly higher to national and regional<br />

checks at Tuljapur (4211 kg/ha, 1 st ) and to regional check at Derol (1718 kg/ha, 4 th ). In region 3<br />

and 4 it showed 7.72% and 21.92% higher yield than the best check, respectively. In the states <strong>of</strong><br />

Maharashtra (1 st ), Gujarat (2 nd ) and Madhya Pradesh (3 rd ) it’s yield superiority over best check was<br />

14.87%, 35.18% and 7.29%, respectively. Qualitywise it had high head rice recovery (70.3%),<br />

intermediate ASV (5.0), high AC (25.34%) and hard GC (22 mm) which is not acceptable.<br />
