Drought
Score
(SES)
Drought at one or other crop growth stage during Kharif 2010 was reported at Hazaribagh,
Paramkudi and Bhubaneswar. Whereas, well distributed normal rainfall was received at other
locations ensuring good crop stand. At all the locations no major disease and insect pest damage
was reported. At Ranchi the yield of the entries was very poor, but no explanation provided, hence
not considered for analysis of mean of the entries. All the entries were also evaluated for drought
tolerance under rainout shelter at Hazaribagh. The drought stress was imposed at 2 stages one at
vegetative and another at reproductive stage. Under rain out shelter screening the checks Vandana
(regional) and Brown gora (local check) had drought tolerance scores of 3 and 5, respectively in 0-9
scale, while the national check Anjali had 7 score. Among the test entries IET Nos.22020, 22026,
22032, 22034 and IET 22037 had 3 score indicating that these entries had tolerance to drought. The
other 9 entries showed moderate tolerance to drought with a score of 5 in 0-9 scale. The data is
provided below.
The performance of the entries under drought stress and normal rainfall conditions are
discussed separately.
