When choosing a new mortgage to buy a home, get
the best loan for your personal situation. Here are
the steps to take before shopping for a home.
• Get a free copy of your credit report. Be sure
to notify the credit bureaus of any errors in the
credit report you receive.
• Before shopping for your home, get preapproved
so you know the maximum mortgage
you can obtain. Read the conditions carefully.
Your pre-approval should only be contingent on
appraisal of the home you decide to buy.
• Decide if a fixed rate or adjustable rate mortgage
(ARM) is best. If you plan to stay in your home
less than seven years, an adjustable rate mortgage
can save considerable interest expense.
• If you plan to keep your home more than seven
years, a fixed rate mortgage is usually safest.
Should interest rates rise, a fixed rate mortgage
protects you because your payment cannot
increase.
• When shopping for an ARM, ask about the index
used, the margin , maximum annual payment
and interest increases, lifetime “cap” maximum,
interest rate, and if the ARM is assumable by a
future buyer of your home. The slowest-moving
ARM index is usually the “cost of fund index”
whereas the most volatile are the “treasury bill
indexes”. A margin, such as 2 percent, is added
to the monthly-changing index rate to arrive at
the ARM interest rate.
• When comparing mortgages offered, obtain the
APR (annual percentage rate) which includes
any loan fee.
Christmas for these children
MUNA Federal Credit Union is a proud sponsor of
East Mississippi State Hospital. MUNA FCU team
Thank you to all the members who helped Stuff the Bus.
A Message from the President/CEO ...
We are sad to announce
that Mrs. Dorothy Jordan is
officially retiring from her
position as the Collection
Officer at MUNA Federal
Credit Union. Dorothy has
been with MUNA since
1995. She started her career
at MUNA as a Member
Service Representative where
she managed accounts, share
drafts and returns. In 2007,
Dorothy was promoted as the
Collection Officer of MUNA
Federal Credit Union. She
had many accomplishments
throughout her career at
MUNA. Dorothy shared her
knowledge, talents, and skills
to MUNA Federal Credit
Union and to all employees.
We will be holding a
retirement party for her at
MUNA Federal Credit Union
(main office) on Friday,
April 27th from 2:00 – 4:00
p.m. Everyone is invited to
attend this party in honor of
our dear friend and colleague.
Refreshments will be served.
To our friend Dorothy, we
wish you all the best and hope
you enjoy a happy, healthy,
and well-deserved vacation!
It is hard to pick up the newspaper or listen to the daily news without a reminder of the
unfortunate economic situation our country faces. In tough times people turn to their credit union for guidance, the ability to make
sound financial decisions, and for assurance that the credit union is acting in the membership’s best interest. As a result of our computer
system being phased out of service last June, we are now able to provide you with the latest technology available to enhance
your banking needs.
As an important part of our recent computer system upgrade MUNA Federal Credit Union had three main goals when selecting its
new online banking system. First we needed to replace a system that was being phased out last June. Secondly we needed a product
that was user-friendly for both members and the credit union staff. Lastly we were looking to increase both the information and
transactions available for members. It’s Me 247 has answered all of these requirements. Combined with our new CU Talk telephone
banking and now text banking capability, MUNA has the latest technology to offer our membership. We hope that all MUNA members
will take advantage of these tools to better serve your financial needs.
We want to assure our members that MUNA is financially stronger than at any time in our 50-year history. MUNA has always
maintained the highest standards in our lending programs. Never has MUNA been better positioned to meet the financial needs of
our members, and we look forward to offering many years of safe, sound, and high quality financial services to our members for
many generations to come.
Sincerely,
Bo Pittman

Are You Saving for Retirement?
Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA)
have been around for quite some time
now, however, many of us still put off
saving for retirement and few actually
save enough to meet expected future
living expenses. If you haven’t started
saving, consider speaking to a Member
Service Representative about opening
an IRA. If you currently have an
IRA, remember you have until
April 17 to make your
2011 contribution. For
more information
on different IRA
options, stop in
DORMANT FEES
Has it been over a year since you have performed a transaction
with your MUNA account?
If you have answered “yes” to the question above, then you
may be affected by the dormant account fee!
How to avoid the dormant account fee:
It’s simple! Perform a member generated transaction. A
member generated transaction includes: cash or check deposits
and withdrawals, ATM transactions, Home Banking and PAR
Audio Response Transactions, Share Draft or ACH (Automated
Clearing House) Transactions. However, member generated
transactions do no include: dividend postings or fee postings.
WhathappensifIdon’tperformamembergeneratedtransaction
annually?
Your account will be placed in a Dormant Account Status, a
hold will be placed on your account and you must complete
a cash or check transaction via in branch or mail in order to
remove the Dormant Account Status. Your account will be
charged a $10.00 quarterly fee for every quarter that your
account remains in a Dormant Account Status.
Savings Add Up
Effortlessly!
With our free Round Up savings program,
each time you make a debit card
purchase, MUNA rounds your
transaction amount to the nearest
dollar and automatically transfers
the excess from your MUNA checking
account to your designated MUNA
savings account. The spare change from
your everyday errands adds up quickly.
