Directors Report
Didn’t February go past fast? In fact so fast that we changed the date on the
newsletter to March, so now we’re always going to be a month ahead. It was
suggested as a bit of a joke to the committee, that we change the date on the
newsletter. Now that we have a ride calendar well in advance, it makes sense to be
doing the newsletter the month before it’s due so everyone can plan which events
they want to go on. The ride calendar is not set in concrete, so if you’d like to do a
ride, please contact me, a member of the committee, or the Activities Officer. The
rides listed to date, were planned at a ride calendar meeting prior to the last
newsletter. We had 14 people putting in their ideas of where they would like to go.
We actually came up with rides right through to November and these will appear on
a rolling calendar in the newsletter. As one month of rides finishes, the next will be
listed. Please come up with your own ride ideas, it would be great to have the
choice of two or three rides to go on per month.
Anyone wishing to go on the Byron run and stay overnight will need to
book ASAP as the caravan park is now nearly full booked. Contact Deb or myself
for more information.
For those of you who couldn’t make it to the 20 th Anniversary ride, games
and dinner - we started off with a ride down to the Ma Ma Creek shop for smoko
with around 25 bikes and one trike, then headed back up via Flagstone Creek to
Upper Flagstone Creek Rd and on to Ray’s house. Several other bikes joined us for
some games and a sausage sizzle for lunch. Thank’s to Boyd for the loan of the two
sun shades, as it was really hot at Ray’s. The games went on for what seemed a
very quick three hours. It was really good to see so many people giving it a go and
being so competitive (in a very friendly way). Thank you very much to Ray who set
up the lanes and then did lunch.
Dinner was set for 7.00 with drinks from 6.30 which was when The
Chronicle showed up for photos . Colin & his staff produced a fantastic dinner (no
one could have left hungry) We had around 50 people at the dinner, some of whom
were original members, which was great to see and it was very interesting to talk to
them. During dinner we made presentations to the winners of the games. (Deb made
trophies for all the events including finding plastic cabbages’ for the cabbage racing
trophies - thank you I know how long it took). We also presented Boyd with a
plaque for having been our dealer principal for twenty years and then Boyd
presented the Hog club with the same plaque (both come from HOG Aust.). During
dinner we were entertained by singer “Lynda” with a good mix of songs. By the
end of the night, she had no more business cards to give out. It was a great night
and a special thank you to Deb, Dianne and John Hubbard for all their help with
setting up the hall.
Continue other page
I would also like to thank Graham Moore who set
up all the photos for the night and donated a
Harley Eagle plaque, which we gave away with
the trivia questions. Thanks also to Peter Sempf,
who went home after the games, and made copies
of the video from the day’s events which was
also shown on the night.
For those of you who saw The Chronicle
story, Deborah did up a full history on the club
and things like the cruise for cancer, but they
chose to run with cabbage racing (it also appears
I got divorced, as the interview was with Ms
Hediger). Thanks Deb for trying.
As always ride safely and have fun.
Brisbane.
The day is a true motorcycle concours de elegance offering $1500 for “best in show”, and trophies for 14
classes including British, Continental, Japanese, American, Classic, Competition, Custom, Street Special,
Merchandise Monthly
This is just a reminder to the ladies about the Garage Party we are holding on the 26 th of March at Boyd
Yung Motorcycles. Please don’t forget to RSVP by the 23 rd of March so we can organise food and
know numbers prior to the night. Also if you know any other women who might be interested please
encourage them to come along to and it doesn’t matter if they ride a Honda or Harley all riders are
welcome but LADIES ONLY. Sorry guys.
What this night will achieve is to provide a basic understanding of motorcycle care and maintenance
while providing the opportunity for you to meet other women interested in the sport. Then on the
Saturday, weather permitting, we’ll have a sausage sizzle lunch at the shop around 12 then followed by a
Ladies only ride. So please join us for our first Ladies only Garage party.
From the Dealer’s Desk…
I was reminded that Easter is only just
around the corner so I thought it
appropriate to give a timely reminder
that if you are planning to go on a trip
during the period it is time to have the
bike checked out.
It only seemed like yesterday that we
were getting organized for the
Christmas holidays. How quickly time
seems to fly.
Since Christmas the weather for riding
has not been the best, with inclement
weather almost every day. I am not
complaining as we certainly needed our
dams topped up and if the news of
yesterday is correct another big cyclone
out in the Coral Sea might keep the
pattern of weather going for another
couple of weeks.
With this in mind I thought I would
remind you to not forget your bike and
keep the maintenance and cleaning
schedule up.
When you have extended periods of
rain the bike tends to stay parked in the
garage, now is good time to go and
have a good look over your bike and
while you are doing that give your bike
a good polish.
The atmosphere has a much higher
moisture content and components like
chrome certainly do not like this and
you can let corrosion start to get a hold.
In all probability you may have got
caught in some rain before you parked
your bike.
Use the lack of riding time to give your
bike that long overdue detail and while
you are at it, don’t forget to lube your
cables, hand control pivots, check your
tyre pressures etc.
If it has been a while since your last
service, now might be a good time to
book into the service department for a
check over.
Even with you bike parked the oil in the
engine tend to attract moisture from the
atmosphere and with the previous
extended dry spell we forget these
things.
I find in wet weather that it is the time I
do that long overdue detail on my bike
and I remove the wheels, seats, battery
to get better access to the hard to get at
areas.
It is certainly easier to clean the spokes
on a work bench and with the wheels
removed and a damp cloth you can get
in under the fenders and wipe of the
wiring and spray some bike shine about
to give your bike that new again look.
I like to do this every six to nine months
and if the weather is not for riding then
it helps the time go by.
Ladies don’t forget to let us know if you
are coming to the Garage Party Night
and Ride. Also tell your friends it is
open to any female riders of all brands
of motorcycles. - Boyd
