From the Pole
by Ted Myrus, President
Exceptional is how I’d describe the 2006 Annual
Installation and Charity Banquet. Margi Knight and
Kathy Alnwick chose the Marriott Hotel-Gaslamp
Quarter with its stunning view of the setting sun over
San Diego Bay with Petco Park and the Convention
Center in the foreground. An affirmation of why we
live in San Diego. The night’s program was fast-paced,
succinct, and well-received. Over 180 of us were in
attendance enjoying excellent food and Porsche friends.
The silent auction, a crowd favorite, had 50 items
kicking off our 50 th year and raising over $9,000. The
live auction raised $3,900. Thanks go to Keith Verlaque
for a fantastic job of auctioneering and entertaining.
Proceeds went to Alta Vista Academy and Rady
Children’s Hospital. Pioneer Centres’ General Manager,
Mark Smith, presented a check in the amount of
$59,000 to Rady Children’s Hospital representative
Carol Damon-Scherer. Pioneer donated $100 for every
Porsche sold in 2006.
Credit for this year’s auction success goes to Katina
Gonzalez, and her sisters Marysol, Lorena, and Crystal.
Thanks also go to Denise Dente, Bob McLaughlin,
Martha McGowan, Christy Copeman, and Tami
Ibbetson. A job well done!
The driving schedule for January and February was
disrupted as a result of the Chargers’ success. This
impacted planning for other events as well, but we’re
getting it sorted out. As you read this, we will have had
a TT at Willow Springs on February 3-4 and a Board
meeting at the Harris home on February 7. Saturday
February 17 there is a Parade meeting and a Valentine’s
Party that evening…..an event not to be missed.
Wednesday February 21 is a special Tech Session dealing
with important aspects of the Parade. Rounding out the
month is a Last Tuesday Social on the 27 th .
We need a volunteer(s) for the Goodie Store. Can
you help?
