engaged McManus to supply Masses. The latter still giving scandal, by drink.<br />

Rev. Jas. Redmond, Arklow, to Card. Cullen, saying what he has heard of<br />

Fr. O ' K . and conveying suggestions on dealing with him.<br />

Rev. Patk. Neary, C . C . , <strong>Callan</strong>, to Card. Cullen, sending ballads, etc., re<br />

<strong>Callan</strong> troubles; difficulty in getting copies of letters to Card. Barnabo , etc.<br />

M. Cahill, Ballyragget, to Card. Cullen, re O'K. case; The schism having<br />

spread even into Cashel diocese, a Bishop should be appointed at once; the<br />

two hot-headed curates should be replaced by sensible ones; Fr. O'K. should<br />

be conciliated, while power should be got to act vigorously if necessary;<br />

public opinion of right-minded priests and laymen should be sought; the<br />

Augustinians should be used. Fr. O ' K . very sensitive to lay public opinion.<br />

Mary Anne Phelan, <strong>Callan</strong> N . S . , to Card. Cullen, reporting on her school's<br />

success despite F r . O ' K . ' S opposition, and asking Cardinal to speak in her<br />

favour to National Board.<br />

W.R. Meredith(Solr.), Dublin, to Fr. O'K., warning of possible<br />

consequences of having Neary arrested.<br />

Rev. John Walsh, C.C,<strong>Callan</strong>, to Mgr. Moran, saying<br />

Fr. O'K. had refused a registered letter (possibly<br />

from Cardinal) and had threatened legal proceedings<br />

against Cardinal.<br />

W. R. Meredith, Dublin, to Rev. Wm. Martin C.C, <strong>Callan</strong>, threatening<br />

legal proceedings on behalf of Fr. O'K. for reading and posting up a<br />

defamatory document signed by Card. Cullen.<br />

Formal note saying Rev. R. <strong>O'Keeffe</strong> will call on Card. Cullen.<br />

+Ed. Walshe, Kilkenny, to Card. Cullen, re danger: of publishing<br />

suspension of Fr. O ' K . , and suggesting that the curates might hold<br />

"Stations" in their own large house.<br />
