Alexander H. <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

Crawdfordville, Georgia - May 31, 1904 a prominent farmer of Taliaferro was buried<br />

today. He had been ill only a short time and suffered from paralysis. The Constitution -<br />

The funeral of the late Alexander H. <strong>Gunn</strong> of South Evanston, Illinois was held yesterday<br />

afternoon at 3 o’clok. Reb. Dr. John M. Mills conducted the services and interment was<br />

private at Rosehill. Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong> was 50 years of age and had lived in Evanston twenty five<br />

years. A widow and five children survive him. Two sons; Childs and Richard <strong>Gunn</strong>; three<br />

daughters; Harriett, Amelia, and Emily <strong>Gunn</strong>. Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong> was in Real Estate. - The Daily<br />

Inter Ocean published July 14, 1893.<br />

Alexander <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

July 7, 1901 - Plain Dealer Cleveland Ohio - <strong>New</strong>s reached Cleveland yesterday from Berlin<br />

Germany of the death of Alexander <strong>Gunn</strong> of this city. Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong> was widely known in<br />

Cleveland where he had resided almost all of his life. He passed away at Nauheim<br />

Germany yesterday of heart disease. His remains will be brought to Ohio for burial. Mr.<br />

<strong>Gunn</strong> was a close friend of W. C. Whitney of <strong>New</strong> York and of the Paynes. He was highly<br />

educated and well read and had an extensive acquaintance in Clevelnad society. In 1850 he<br />

entered the employ of the George Worthington Company and remained with the same firm<br />

for over thirty years. In 1883 his health became enfeebled and he left active business life.<br />

Since then his winters have been spent in California and his summers on his farm at Zoar,<br />

Ohio where he lived in an old log hut and spent his days in reading and writing. A month<br />

ago he went to Germany in an endeavor to find relief from his trouble with his heart. Mr.<br />

<strong>Gunn</strong> was sixty years of age. He was a member of the Union club, and although an<br />

American was a prominent member of several German societies, the Gesangverein and the<br />

Social Turnverein being among the number. Last year Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong> lost his only brother. A<br />

sister, Mrs. Mary Gillett of No 67 Davenport Street, survives him. Ex-secretary Whitney<br />

will see that the remains are brought back to Ohio.<br />

Alexander <strong>Gunn</strong><br />

Alexander <strong>Gunn</strong> was born July 25, 1821, in Nairn, Scotland, His death occurred, at his<br />

home in Owasa, Iowa, Thursday Feb. 21, 1907. At the time of his death he was 85 years, (6<br />

months and 27 days old. Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong> came to Wellsville, Ohio, in 1851 and moved to Iowa in<br />

1856. He helped to build the first rail road in this state. In 1859 Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong> took up his<br />

permanent residence in the state. He resided on the one farm for 41) years. Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong> was<br />

one of a family of three boys and three girls. Alexander was the last of this family, each one<br />

of which attained an age of more than 80 years. The last one, except Alexander, a sister,<br />

died in January last, having attained the age of 90 years. Alexander <strong>Gunn</strong> was married to<br />

Miss Margaret Mackenzie of Wellsville, Ohio, on June 17,1862. Mrs. <strong>Gunn</strong> died 8 years<br />

ago. They had liye children, two of whom, John and Mrs. Fred Trickey, together with five<br />

grand children, are living in Owasa, Mr. <strong>Gunn</strong> was a life-long member of the Presbyterian<br />

church, having been trained in the faith of his fathers from childhood. Funeral services<br />

were conducted in the Methodist church of Owassa last Saturday, the 23. The Rev. J.
