Ed Phillips, a graduate of Aldine High<br />
School, has spent his entire professional<br />
career serving the students of the FFA.<br />
While a student at Aldine High School, Ed<br />
Phillips was actively involved in leadership<br />
development events, career development<br />
events and also showed livestock at the<br />
Aldine ISD Livestock Show. After graduating<br />
from Aldine High School in 1965, Ed<br />
Phillips received his bachelor’s degree in<br />
Animal Science from Texas A&M in 1970 and his master’s degree in<br />
Education from Sam Houston State University in 1972.<br />
While studying at Sam Houston State University, Ed Phillips married<br />
his wife Lanell and had a son named Sloan and a daughter named<br />
LaNei. After receiving his degree in education, Ed Phillips taught<br />
at Buffalo High School for 34 years. During this time Ed Phillips<br />
witnessed how involvement in the Agriscience classes can truly<br />
have a positive impact on the lives of young people. Both of Ed<br />
Phillips’ children were actively involved in the FFA. Sloan and LaNei<br />
were honored with the State FFA Lonestar Degree and LaNei was<br />
honored with the National FFA American Farmer Degree.<br />
Since retiring from teaching, Ed Phillips serves as an auctioneer for<br />
over 100 livestock shows in 4 states and Puerto Rico. Ed Phillips<br />
has also auctioneered for the Aldine ISD Livestock Show for twentyseven<br />
out of the fifty years that the show has been in existence.<br />
When not traveling to livestock shows, Ed and Lanell enjoy spending<br />
time on their ranch in Leon County.<br />
Ed Phillips is very thankful for Mr. Parker, Mr. Quinn and Mr. Wilson,<br />
his Agriscience teachers at Aldine High School and the influence<br />
his teachers had on his life and career choice. Ed Phillips’ experiences<br />
through the FFA while at Aldine High School opened many<br />
doors and gave him direction to his career choices. Auctioneering<br />
has allowed Ed Phillips to remain in contact with the young people<br />
that are still being influenced by the FFA today. It is a pleasure and<br />
honor for Ed Phillips to attend and auctioneer at the 50th anniversary<br />
of the Aldine ISD Livestock Show since he was once in the<br />
shoes on the young people participating today.<br />
