of entertainment at the 19th Annual MAR-<br />
TY Awards on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at<br />
the Hammerson Hall of the Living Arts<br />
Centre (located at 4141 Living Arts Drive).<br />

Produced by MAC, the MARTYS are the<br />
pinnacle of excitement and publicity for<br />
Mississauga’s thriving arts community.<br />
This year’s MARTYS will be hosted by<br />
fresh new talent, local actor and comedian,<br />
Tristan Barrocks. Tristan is also nominated<br />
in the emerging media arts category<br />
and his production company, Word Made<br />
Flesh (WMF) is nominated in the emerging<br />
performing group arts category. He promises<br />
to put a whole new spin on the show<br />
this year, making it interactive with the audience!<br />

The award show will start at 8 p.m. and<br />
feature an exhilarating lineup of entertainment,<br />
including the Johnny Max Band,<br />
jazz sensation the Alma Quartet, the<br />
ConBrio Singers, the Cawthra Dancers,<br />
and Zohra Zoberi together with Vibonics.<br />
Local musician, Kyle Fraser will serenade<br />
guests at the VIP after party and the group<br />
Marielba, Eduardo & Greg will be playing<br />
their Spanish ballades during the red<br />
carpet reception avec hors d’oeuvres commencing<br />
promptly at 6:30 p.m.<br />
The MARTY Awards celebrate the artistic<br />
achievements of the city’s established<br />
artists while encouraging and supporting<br />
Spring 2013<br />
emerging artistic talent. The MARTYS<br />
have been described as an important<br />
launch for many Mississauga artists’ careers.<br />
Past fi nalists and winners have<br />
moved on to fi nd their place in the international<br />
artistic community. This year there<br />
are a grand total of 91 artists in the running<br />
for the awards. The calibre of artistic talent<br />

Categories include emerging and established<br />
literary arts, media arts, performing<br />
and performing group arts, visual arts,<br />
as well as the creative community award.<br />
The Laurie Pallett Patron of the Arts Award<br />
and the Volunteer of the Year Award will<br />
also be recognized with a unique award<br />
presentation. The People’s Choice Award<br />
will also be presented the evening of the<br />
ceremony. This year, the artistic style of<br />
the trophies are like you’ve never seen<br />
them before- think Salvador Dali surrealism,<br />
created by local Mississauga ceramic<br />
artits, Jolanta Jung.<br />
