Basketball Season is underway and the Blue Jays will start league play the first week of December. We would like to thank the following volunteers for coaching our students this season; Senior Boys—Jordan Culp, Senior Girls—Chantalle Boese, Jr A Boys—Marlin Kary and Spencer Price, Jr A Girls—Kevin Kubinec and Cara Smith, Jr B Boys—volunteer needed and Jr B Girls—Derek Benedict. Thanks you so much for your time and commitment to our students. As we do not have a gym the teams are practicing in the Prairie West Gym in Three Hills and will not host any home games. Good Luck to all of our teams for a fun and successful season. Junior A Boys Basketball: Jean Clifford Dela Cruz, Clayton Kary, Mackenzie Lacey, Christian Matriz, Bryce McRae, Mitch Mcrae, Kyle Painter, Zack Painter and Kennedy Wagstaff. Coach: Marlin Kary, Asst. Coach: Spencer Price The team plays Dec 4 vs Drum and Dec. 11 vs Three Hills. They will be attending a tournament in Duchess Dec. 14 & 15. Senior Boys Basketball: Adriane Caparas, Earl Escover, Kevin Escover, Benett Kary, Dylan Kolner,, Austin Painter and Gage Wharram. Coach: Jordan Culp More rosters will be forthcoming once all the team lineups have been finalized. The students were given a schedule, as well schedules are posted in the document section of our website as well as on the website Athletic Calendar. WANTED… Jr High B Boys Basketball coach Please contact Mr. Kubinec at the school if you are interested or know of anyone who would be. Phys Ed Clothing All students—K—12 need to dress appropriately for outdoor Phys Ed classes and recess. As the weather gets colder please dress accordingly. FALL ATHLETIC AWARDS On November 29th the Junior and Senior High students assembled for the fall athletic awards, which included Golf, Cross Country Running and Volleyball. Zone participation certificates were awarded to all athletes who participated at zone level. The coaches of the volleyball teams awarded individual awards to many deserving young Tro Val athletes. You all represented Trochu Valley School well and we are proud of each of you. A complete list of winners can be found on the website. We are looking for photos to add to our yearbook. If you have any sports or special Tro Val events for the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 years please put them on a storage device and send to the school. We appreciate your input into our school yearbook.
Healthy Hot Lunch -Thursday December 20th -Turkey Dinner This is a FREE lunch for ALLstudents and staff compliments of Tro-Val Parent Council and will be hosted at the hall! We would appreciate parent help with the cooking of turkeys, preparation of the food and clean up. If you are able to lend a hand or would like to make a donation toward this meal please contact Christine Vokins @ 403 391 1660 (cell). Parents please mark this date on your calendars as there will be no further reminders sent home. Tro Val Fall Market Update. Surprising and unavoidable events lead to a less than stellar market, but we did even more surprisingly meet at least half of our goal for that fundraiser. Our market was ice-storm power outage day. Remarkably... We were blessed with a nice turn out and we did have half our vendors push through and show up! WOW! ~ Huge thank you to all the parents who donated items for supper and for bake sale and for working our booths and concession, for coming to do set up or staying for clean up. A special thank you to Marty Majore, father of Akiera, in Mrs. Reti's grade 5 class for writing a check for the entire hall rental! Thanks Marty! Watch for upcoming fundraising updates. Looking for: Volunteers for Teachers Appreciation Supervision... one lunch period a month.... Contact Darla Gagyi 403-442-2761 Message from Parent Council Anti-Bullying Committee... The theme this year for Bully Awareness and Prevention Week was STAND UP! We would like to recognize one of our students for doing just that. This young man displayed courage in his desire to STAND UP and take responsibility for his actions. He decided to make a change that not only affected himself, but those who stand around him. He was the first to set an example of what STAND UP means. It takes a lot of courage to do what this young man did and the example he has set for his peers is a strong one. It gave me great pleasure to award JOSH MORGAN the first set of SHAKERS tickets for the month of November for his efforts and the courage shown in his desire to STAND UP! Well done sir, well done. If you, his fellow community members, fellow students or teachers, want to know what Josh did, seek him out and ask him. See how he can inspire you! SHAKERS supports Trochu Valley School in its efforts to STAND UP and we are grateful for that support. I have been informed by SHAKERS that they are considering approaching other schools using what we are doing here as a model. Talking about inspiration ... I came across a writing by a young Swalwell girl and found her words very powerful. In speaking with her mother, she has given me permission to share them with you as it is her daughters' desire that her words touch many. The young girl is 13 year old Shelby Mckenzie Ellen Jewell who att e n d s o u r n e i g h b o r i n g s c h o o l i n T h r e e H i l l s . S h e w r i t e s : I do not believe in the saying "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em." Because usually, that is NEVER the right way to go; like with bullying. You should never join the 'bad' side of things, no matter how 'alone' you may feel. If you hold your head up high, stand tall and be proud of yourself you won't have to 'beat' anyone because you've already WON. Stand Tall, Stay Proud. Well done Shelby. We had our first motivational speakers/s in for Campus 2. Willow VanWolde and her associate Carly [Youth Incentive Program Alberta Government] presented to the grade six, seven and eight classes today. They did an amazing job with our youth in talking about bullying. All aspects were covered with the children and encouragement was predominant with the STAND UP theme. After the presentation a question and answer period was offered and the children asked some very powerful questions to which educated and age appropriate answers were supplied. Well done! Bully Prevention and Awareness Week is now over. The prevention and awareness however, is a year long - life long commitment to yourselves and the community you reside in. 12 year old Josh Morgan had the courage to STAND UP. We all need to strive to find that courage and support that courage in ourselves as parents, as students and as administrators. Reach out to each other and support each other and be proud of your efforts whether they be large or small. The wonderful thing about effort is, it doesn't matter how small or how large it is, the result is always uplifting. Don't be afraid to give yourselves a little pat on the back either ... it feels good!
