Networking
for a better world
The potential of social media seems
limitless. People around the world use it
to keep in touch, corporations tap into it
for business, and now, GET IT DONE is
using it to make the world a better place.
GET IT DONE is a global community
that uses social media to create and
Towards more sustainable air travel
On 26 October in the Passenger
Terminal Amsterdam, 150 representatives
from business, the non-profi t sector and
government took part in the KLM
Dialogue Event for sustainable aviation.
When defi ning the next steps to be
taken, KLM values the opinion of its
stakeholders. So the key question of the
day – “What steps should be taken to
make aviation more sustainable?” – was
addressed in an open space dialogue.
Earlier in the day, KLM and World Wide
Fund for Nature the Netherlands (WWF-
NL) renewed their strategic partnership.
“For seven years running, AIR FRANCE
KLM has been the sector leader in the
Dow Jones Sustainability Index,” said
Camiel Eurlings, Managing Director at KLM.
“Despite the unsure economic climate,
KLM continues to invest in making the
support small-scale development projects
around the world. The organisation
provides a link between grass-roots
projects and individuals worldwide –
creating person-to-person connections
between supporters and project owners.
Since no fees are subtracted from the
aviation sector more sustainable. For
years, KLM has been a leader in the
airline industry in reducing CO2 emissions
and stimulating innovation in the area of
biofuels. We are very committed to our
cooperation with WWF-NL in this area.”
donations, all the money received goes
directly to the projects.
How does it work?
Local organisations or individuals team up
with members of the online community to
submit a project to the platform – from a
clean drinking water programme to building
a school. Once the project is approved, the
project owners mobilise their online social
networks to promote the project and raise
funds. And then anyone can get involved,
by donating directly or by promoting the
project to others. One of the ways KLM
supports GET IT DONE is by mobilising its
social community in this way.
contributed ideas via Twitter. For more
