Schreiner, Adolf
Always Smaller
A Humerous Fantasy
for clarinet and piano
Edited by Rudolf Mauz
This showpiece by Adolf Schreiner
(1847-1921) is perfectly suited as
an encore or even for children’s
concerts. In accordance with the
composer’s instructions, the performer
gradually disassembles
the instrument, beginning with the
bell, until in the end he plays only
on the barrel. Performed with a
theatrical gesture, this humorous
clarinet fantasia will not fail to
have the desired effect on the
audience.
Rietz, Julius
Clarinet Concerto
Op. 26
Edited by David Schwarb
A real rediscovery for the clarinet
repertoire is the virtuoso concerto
by Julius Rietz (1812–1877), a
close friend of Felix Mendelssohn
Bartholdy and conductor at the
Leipzig Gewandhaus. The tonal
language, similar to that of
Mendelssohn, and the enthusiasm
of the solo clarinet have lost nothing
of their attraction to date, as
is proven by the phenomenal new
recording with Sharon Kam as a
soloist.
piano reduction with solo
part
Reimann, Aribert
Arietta
for basset clarinet in A
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart originally
composed his famous piano
concerto for the deeper-toned
basset clarinet. The famous clarinettist
Sabine Meyer has faithfully
performed Mozart’s work for a
long time. It was for her that
Aribert Reimann wrote the current
‘Arietta’ as an encore which
brings out impressively the characteristic
timbre of the basset
horn. Together with other clarinet
works by Reimann, including the
concert piece ‘Cantus’, the first
recording with Jörg Widmann
produced by the WDR is released
on CD.
