With a solo album, a feature
fi lm and regular TV hosting gig
last year alone, there seems
to be no stopping the multitalented
entertainer Natalie
Bassingthwaighte
WORDS KATHY BUCHANAN
She’s
a sexy acting, singing and
dancing machine. Former
country girl Natalie Bassingthwaighte is
currently hosting Australia’s So You Think You
Can Dance, starring in the hotly anticipated
Underbelly 3 and has had a number 1 debut
album 1000 Stars. Triple threat, anyone?
Running an hour late from a photoshoot
in central Sydney, Bassingthwaighte, 34,
rushes madly into the trendy Bambini Trust
restaurant, plonks down into a chair and
says, “Sorry, today is absolutely crazy.” She
pauses for a second to shake my hand, then
immediately grabs the menu — not even
noticing the admiring looks she’s getting in her
cool black top and skinny jeans — adding “I’m
absolutely starving!”
Fifteen minutes later, while chomping into
a seafood salad, this Aussie blue-eyed blonde
hasn’t stopped talking enthusiastically about
the exciting year ahead. The petite star,
standing at just 1.61cm, grew up in Wollongong,
New South Wales, spending weekends helping
out at her nearby grandparents’ sheep farm.
“Actually, we played at the farm more than
worked. Jumping on haystacks, riding around
on motorbikes and catching sheep. It was a big
part of our time growing up,” she explains.
