In Spain a lady liv'd <strong>of</strong> late,<br />

Who was <strong>of</strong> high degree ; 10<br />

Wh<strong>of</strong>e wayward temper did create<br />

Much woe and mifery.<br />

Strange jealoufies fo fill'd her head<br />

With many a vain furmize,<br />

She thought her lord had wrong'd her bed, i£<br />

And did her love defpife.<br />

A gentlewoman paffing fair<br />

Did on this lady wait j .<br />

With braveft dames me might compare s<br />

Her beauty was compleat. 20<br />

Her lady call a jealous eye<br />

Upon this gentle maid ;<br />

And taxt her with difloyaltye ;<br />

In iilence Hill this maiden meek 25<br />

Her bitter taunts would bear,<br />

While <strong>of</strong>t adown her lovely cheek<br />

Would Heal the falling tear, f<br />

In vain in humble fort ihe flrove<br />

Her fury to difarm ; 30<br />

As well the meeknefs <strong>of</strong> the dove<br />

The bloody hawke might charm.<br />
