you can see from the pics below they had a wonderful time...albeit
sometimes hair-raising!

GOVERNIN GOVERNING GOVERNIN BODY BODY ANNOUNCEMENT
ANNOUNCEMENT
The Governing Body of Maritzburg College, after extensive consultations, has resolved to change the scope and
emphasis of the portfolio of “Director of Sport”. The person holding the position of “Director of Sport” would not
be engaged in any coaching of any sport to enable them to give full attention to the portfolio. Michael Bechet, the
current “Director of Sport”, faced with the choice of Director of Sport or continuing as a coach, has elected not to
take up the position of Director of Sport in the new format, believing he can add greater value to the SCHOOL by
continuing to coach sport.
Mr Bechet will accordingly concentrate on coaching the First Cricket and Hockey teams and will continue as
Housemaster of Hudson House and will spend additional time as “Head of Physical Education”.
College Biologists – Jeanette Finnie
Form 5 Life Sciences boys investigating the effects of
fermentation using yeast, sugar and warm water. This
process releases carbon dioxide as a by-product and
inflates the balloons attached to the plastic bottles The
boys compared the amounts of carbon dioxide produced
under various conditions in each bottle. This is a good
opportunity for our boys to do "hands-on" practical work
during their lessons.
GASP Presentation
On Monday 19 March, Mr Gavin Cox from Games Adolescents Shouldn’t Play (GASP) will be
speaking to the junior (Forms 2 and 3) boarders about the dangers of playing, in particular, the
so-called ‘choking game’. Gavin’s own 16-year-old son died playing it in 2004, and he has since
then dedicated his life to saving the lives of other children, and sparing other families similar
grief. The talk will take place in the Victoria Hall at 18h30, and dayboys and their parents are
welcome too. The cost is R10 per person, and all donations will be passed on to GASP.
