Two days before our Pierce Purcell team were victorious in the pursuit of the Bulmers Pierce Purcell Shield in Monkstown in
September, our Barton Shield team did us proud by contesting the Irish Final of the Bulmers Barton Shield against Portmarnock. On
the day the Dublin club proved to be the stronger, but well done to the team for getting to the final and for bringing back another

AA Insurance All-Ireland Finals Hosted
by Limerick Golf Club
Limerick Golf Club hosted the women's AA Insurance AII­
Ireland Finals on 25 th , 26 th , 27 th and 28 th September. Twentyfour
teams representing Munster, Leinster, Connaught and
Ulster competed in their respective events. ILGU President
Ann Bradshaw and distinguished ladies of the ILGU, including
our own Marion Collins, ILGU Honorary Treasurer, attended
during the four days and helped to organise the event to
perfection.
The Ladies committee and General Manager Pat Murray began
organising the event last March. Without a doubt all the
hard work paid off - it has been widely acknowledged by all
parties involved that the event was extremely well organised.
As an added bonus we had brilliant sunshine, and the course
looked magnificent thanks to our great course staff. Duggan
Catering excelled, and delicious food was enjoyed by all, the
teams and many spectators who visited us.
Many members volunteered to act as hosts to the visiting
teams. They welcomed their team and looked after all their
needs, making them feel at home throughout the four days.
In addition to the hosts, other volunteers were on call at all
times and contributed hugely to the smooth running of the
event.
It was a great honour for Limerick Golf Club to host this
prestigious competition. My sincere thanks to the Ladies
committee and volunteers and all other club members and
members of staff who contributed to the resounding success
of the event. And thanks to Cliodhna Mulcahy for all the
photos (see a sample below).
Finally, we congratulate our neighbours Rathbane Golf Club
on their fantastic achievement of winning the All-Ireland
Junior Foursomes championship.

Golf Pros on the Move
Sadly for Limerick Golf Club, Shane
Madden will be leaving us at the end of
the year. Shane has been with us as a
professional since May 2006, and during
that time has won many friends in the
club with his pleasant manner and good
humour, not to mention his ability to
straighten out many a member's slice
or hook! Shane is currently splitting his
time between Limerick Golf Club and his
new venture, Athlone Golf Academy, and
will move full-time to Athlone in the new
year. Best wishes to you, Shane, from
everyone at Limerick Golf Club - you'll be
missed.
We extend a warm welcome to Daragh
Madigan, who has joined Lee Harrington
in the Pro Shop as Assistant Professional.
A member of the club since 2000, Daragh
has recently completed hisjunior coaching
certification and is now qualified to coach
juniors - you may already have spotted
him on the practice fairway putting
tomorrow's scratch golfers th roug h thei r
paces. Congratulations Daragh from all
of us and the very best of luck to you in
your career.
Indoor Teaching Facilities
Now that winter has truly set in with
limited daylight and inclement weather,
the Pro Shop is offering indoor tuition
to members. Video lessons are now
available and, in addition, members can
be custom-fitted for the irons and woods
of their choice. To promote this new
service, we are providing free custom
fitting between now and Christmas to
anyone who wishes to avail of this offer.
To book your free custom fit session,
call the Pro Shop on 061-431340 or Lee
Harrington on 087-8328786. There are
also plans to install an indoor putting
surface so that members can practise.

Club Defibrillator
One of the first actions that can be
taken by a non-medic in the treatment
of a person who has just suffered a heart
attack is to attem pt to resuscitate the
person with adefibrillator. More and more
sports clubs are purchasing defibrillators
and training volunteer members in their
use. Thanks to the generous sponsorship
of Irish Nationwide Building Society and
its local manager (and club member)
Noel Harrington, Limerick Golf Club now
has its own defibrillator on site - when
you enter the clubhouse through the
front entrance, look immediately to your
left and you will see the defibrillator in a
case on the wall.
Of course, the defibrillator alone cannot
save lives - volunteers are needed to
be trained to use it. The following

use of the defibrillator on 11 August:

Loyalty Card Reminder
The initial loyalty card contribution of
€50 for bar and restaurant will expire on
31st December 2008. Members are urged
to spend their allocation before this date.
If you have topped up your contribution
during the year, this will not be affected,
i.e. it will carry over into 2009.
