02 Impressive Foam Performance OLMO Paper ® - the processing paper of our time OLMO Paper ® , a technology jointly developed by OLMO Company and Mondi Packaging Coating, plays a vital role in today’s foam manufacturing. The OLMO Paper ® is a unique product that combines kraftpaper and a very thin peelable polyethylene film. This exciting new material solves various production problems associated with conventional processing paper or standard polyethylene films. OLMO paper OLMO paper There are many methods of processing flexible polyurethane foam and we believe that you will be using one of the following systems: In all the above machines, you use paper and/or plastic to provide the enclosure for the expanding foam. This means that when the liquid raw materials come into contact with the paper, the paper absorbs them. Furthermore at the end of the machine, when you remove the paper or film from the block, you also take away a layer of foam. This increases foam waste and makes disposal of the paper and film difficult. OLMO Paper ® technology can prevent all these problems and will dramatically reduce your costs. This technology can be successfully applied for the production of several Polyurethane foam types. The OLMO Paper ® already used worldwide by the major foam producers is designed to run on all machine types like Beamech, Cannon Viking, Hennecke and Laader Berg. Foam Designed to Run... 04 Tremendous Cost Savings OLMO Paper ® technology offers 5 major advantages: 1. Tremendous reduction in material loss When polyurethane slabstock buns are produced by the conventional method, the foam material often sticks to the paper causing considerable material loss. Even the use of standard polyethylene films does not prevent material loss to occur during the rewinding operation. OLMO Paper ® eliminates this problem by rewinding only the kraft paper and leaving the thin polyethylene film on the bun surface. At the end of the foaming process the foam bun will present a smooth surface without any skin loss. Benefits are remarkable not only in conventional foam grades, but also in Polyester, High Resilience, TDI and liquid CO2 blown foam. Compared to conventional systems OLMO Paper ® provides a superior foam yield. 2. Greater safety from Isocyanate contact When the kraft paper is peeled away the thin polyethylene film encloses the foam bun and serves as an important safety feature: a) It reduces human contact with Isocyanate vapours b) The level of Isocyanate fumes in the working area has been subject to legislation for many years, and OLMO Paper ® is dramatically reducing this level 3. Cleaner and more efficient work environment Paper debris and foam waste tends to accumulate and impede efficiency in ordinary plants where polyurethane foam is manufactured. But when the OLMO Paper ® is used, waste is remarkably reduced and the plant floor is kept clean and neat to promote greater efficiency. 4. Improved foam properties ● Atmospheric humidity has a big effect upon foam characteristics ● When the thin polyethylene film covers a foam bun the peak temperature it reaches during the curing period is lower in comparison to a block left exposed. Atmospheric humidity is prevented from coming 5. Kraft Paper is reusable even greater savings When OLMO Paper ® is used, the Kraft paper never directly contact the polyurethane. The Kraft paper is not damaged in any way and can be used again in any number of valuable ways, such as wrapping paper, storage or transportation. Yet another way that OLMO Paper ® saves you money! Kraft paper is reuseable for instance as wrapping paper 05 into contact with the reacting Isocyanate, therefore it helps to reduce scorching and in extreme cases, risk of fire ● As a result of lower humidity penetration into the foam bun a better top to bottom hardness distribution is normally obtained ● The Polyethylene film will not allow moisture to penetrate and destroy the Isocyanate, improving the hardness value. This will dramatically reduce the need of increasing Isocyanate index in the humid season ● Thanks to the impermeable nature of the polyethylene film the foam bun will not yellow as a consequence of UV light exposure
