Th e closing of this extraordinary academic
year aff ords the St. Elizabeth Catholic
High School community the opportunity
to celebrate the many academic and
co-curricular accomplishments of the
students. As you read through the
pages fi lled with these celebrations, take
note of how learning at St. Elizabeth
CHS translates into a life committed to
Catholic service and the sharing of our
God-given gifts and talents. Th rough the
commitment of our outstanding staff and
the support of our parents and guardians,
we see the growth and development of
young men and women of Faith each year.
I thank all the staff and parents for
their support of our school. In particular,
I would like to recognize the eff orts of two
staff retiring after a career dedicated to
Catholic education: Mrs. Vetro and Mrs.
Fazzolari will be missed and we wish them
blessings in their new journey. Th ank you
to the many teaching and community
partners who worked with us this year to
ensure we had outstanding opportunities
for students to engage in their learning,
both in the classroom and outside the
traditional learning environment. As
well, I thank the members of our Catholic
School Council for your commitment to
the student body of this school and for
your eff orts in supporting our parent
community through their various outreach

SPORT FUND-
RAISERS BENEFIT
Heart and Stroke
Foundation
St. Elizabeth’s Athletic Council
organized two fundraising
events during the school year:
a Staff -Student Volleyball game
in February and a Staff -Student
Soccer game in May. Th ese
spirit-building events had
students and teachers generate
fun and friendly competition for
students. Th e Athletic Council
raised $895.75 and donated
$500.00 of it to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Every dollar raised is
helping Canadians with heart disease to live longer. Also, part of what the
Heart and Stroke Foundation promotes is healthy active living and eating.
Th e cheque was presented to Joanne Krickovic from the York Region
branch of the Heart and Stroke Foundation at St. Elizabeth’s Athletic
Banquet, which was held at the Royalton on June 13th.

NEW CLUB IS ESTABLISHED
Mr. M. Sniatenchuck, Canadian and World Studies Department
Th e Free the Children Club had an exciting fi rst year of existence! Th e
club began with two eager and persistent grade 10 students, Jessica
Rose Aylward and Daniela Campisi, who are now the club’s Presidents.
Th ese two students and their friends were concerned about the conditions
faced by children around the world today and were aware of the good that
the Free the Children organization is doing and wanted to be part of it.
Our fi rst meeting drew a small group of students but it led to our fi rst
successful campaign just before the Christmas break. As second semester
began and word about the club spread, the club began to grow to its
current membership of almost 40 students. In preparation for our biggest
campaign of the year, Th e Five Days for Freedom, the club met often,
weeks in advance.

Come see the beautiful rainforests and beaches of
Costa Rica from March 7 to 15, 2013. Highlights
include visiting Arenal Volcano, San José,
Monteverde Rainforest, Manuel Antonio National
Park, Carara National Park and volunteering at a
local school. Please contact Mr. Sniatenchuk or
Ms. Wu for more details. Th e deadline to reserve
your spot is September 28, 2012.
Th is event is celebrated every year
to mark the anniversary of the
organization started locally by the
Kielburger brothers. Each day the
focus was diff erent including Freedom
from Poverty, Th irst, Exploitation,
Hunger, and lastly Freedom to Act.
Each day as well as throughout the
week, the club planned school-wide
activities to educate and fundraise
for the Alternative Income campaign.
From the generosity of the school and
the hard work of the club, we were able
to raise over $3000.00 to help families
in developing countries so that they are not forced to
send their children to work. Mr. Sniatenchuk would
like to thank the club presidents as well as the other
executive members (Arian Maglioco, Kate Andres,
Danny Torres, Toni Pascale, Caroline Marrelli,
Kristina Mariano, Adriana Parente) and all the
members for their eff ort and dedication in helping
to make a change in the world. We look forward to
attending We Day at the Rogers Centre on September
28, and holding our campaigns for next year, including
Celebrate for Change, Vow of Silence and Five
Days for Freedom. BE THE CHANGE!

CELEBRATES THIRD
YEAR WITH GREAT
SUCCESS!

Scribbles for Success would like to thank
the St. Elizabeth community for the
generous donations. With your help,
we have ended our third year with great
success. Here are some of the highlights:
November 2011: Members of
Scribbles for Success initiated a challenge
to guess the number of pencils in a water
jug. For a donation of $0.25, staff and
students were able to win a 4-feet tall
cookie monster. We also had parents
participating during parent/teacher
interview night. Th e main purpose of this
event was to promote our group and our
mission to help needy students all over
the world.
December 2011: “Scribblers”
donated school supplies to John Paul
Th e Great Family Centre (JPTGFC). Th is
after-school community program, run by
Sisters Immaculada and Auriesville,
help students with homework and
provide arts and crafts activities. We
donated six boxes of school supplies
towards this cause. Th is would not have
been possible without the help of our own

April 2012:
After many hours
of dedication and
preparation, the
“scribblers” organized
Civies Day. A big
thank you goes out
to the St. Elizabeth
community for your generous support
and donations. With your help, we
were able to fi ll eight boxes of school
supplies!
May 2012: Th e money raised from
our Civies Day was used to purchase
new school supplies and athletic
equipment for JPTGFC. Th rough sport,
the children will be able to discover
their hidden talents as well as develop
leadership and teamwork skills.
June 2012: We were contacted
by Sabrina DiNicolantonio, a York
University student and a member of
VESA (Volunteer Eco Students Abroad).
Th is group includes 25 individuals from
all over the world, united for a good
cause. Th ey will be travelling to Fiji from
July 14 to 30, and volunteering in a
small village. Th is will include teaching
English to primary school children
in providing instruction for proper
hygiene and constructing a rainwater
barrel. Scribbles for Success takes great
pride in helping children around the
world and were glad to contribute one
suitcase full of school supplies for this
initiative. We wish Sabrina and VESA
the best of luck!

Th e FSL and International Languages Department has had a fun-fi lled, eventful semester. Th e grade 9 academic French classes
attended a fi lm viewing in the theater and were taken back to 1931 Paris in the fi lm Hugo. Th e students were exposed to French
culture, sights, cuisine and music of the time. What a delight! Our grade 9 applied French classes surprised us with their culinary
skills by presenting and actually preparing their favourite recipe. Th e students enjoyed savouring the diff erent foods prepared by
their classmates. Mlle Guinci’s grade 10 French class presented their Conte de Fées and transported the class to diff erent parts of
the world with their fables. Mlle Volpe’s grade 11 French class presented their interpretation of the play Zone by Marcel Dubé and
put on a phenomenal show. Mme Bernabei’s grade 12 class played the role of various characters studied throughout the semester
when presenting their fi nal monologues. It was a pleasure to see these characters come alive and what amazing representations.
None of these events would have been possible without the hard work, diligence and eff orts of all the FSL and International
Languages Department teachers and the students. We wish you a safe and restful summer. Merci, Grazie, Gracias!

Mlle Volpe and Mlle Guinci would like to congratulate
and thank the members of the Modern Languages
Council for another very successful and exciting year!
Th e students should all be very proud of all of the events
organized this year for the entire St. Elizabeth student
body! A few highlights of the year include our Carnaval
Week, complete with a crêpe café and Bonhomme
Carnaval himself, an Argentinean empanada cooking
workshop, salsa dancing workshops led by St Elizabeth’s
very own Ms. Ebanks herself and another led by a
group of former St. Elizabeth students, and a foreign
fi lm screening in the theatre.
March Break 2013 we are organizing a trip to Paris and
the French Riviera! If you are interested, please see
Mlle Volpe or Mlle Guinci for further information and
to sign up. We will be advertising again in September,
so please listen for announcements!
Th e Moderns Council ended the year with the annual
end of the year potluck in June where members shared
dishes from all around the world to celebrate their
accomplishments as a Council this year.Th e Council
also elected the Administrative Council for 2012-2013!
What an amazing and delicious culminating activity!

TASTIQUE!’

Th is semester Mlle Volpe’s
grade 11 French class
studied the Québécois
play Zone by Marcel
Dubé! Students read the
play together in class,
participated in a class blog
and performed various
parts of the pièce in front of their peers. Students assigned each other
roles, chose costumes, designed sets and put forth a tremendous eff ort!
Enrica Ammaturo and Selina Manna enjoyed the experience. Selina
said, It was hard, but it was fun, it helped me interpret the play. Seeing the
scenes helped me understand the story. Enrica stated that having this
experience helped her with her reading, and also aided in [her] speaking
skills. Th e class showed a true understanding of the story and characters!
Th eir pronunciation and confi dence greatly improved as well. Th is type
of assignment forced students to take risks with the language and to
leave their comfort ZONE! Mlle Volpe would like to congratulate her
class for a job well done! Félicitations, tout le monde! Vous avez fait un
grand eff ort! Je vous félicite!! A+
¡Qué Empanadas Deliciosas!
On May 16, Mr. D’Astoli’s Spanish class spent the afternoon cooking
up a storm. Students prepared a variety of empanadas: chicken, veal
and ham and cheese. Students were put into four groups to prepare
empanadas. It was interesting to see who could seal the empanadas
with the nicest looking twist. Also, one group was in charge of baking
churros and stuffi ng them with dulce de leche and chocolate. When
all was prepared, students enjoyed the fruits of their labour and also
feasted on a variety of facturas (croissants fi lled with dulce de leche
and custard)

illuminati and the magic of the visual world

On May 17, ‘Illuminati’ the annual
celebration of the visual arts here at
St. Elizabeth C.H.S. was showcased
and enjoyed by the 400 people in
attendance. Th e interior of the York
Catholic District School Board Centre
for the Arts Th eatre was magically
transformed into a spectacular
venue of fun, whimsical and high
culture. Special guests for the evening
included Associate Director of York
Catholic District School Board, Ms.
Patricia Preston; Principal Angela Di
Prima; Vice Principals Fabian Walsh
and Nunzio Romano; Professor
Judith Schwartz, Chair, Visual Arts
Department, Faculty of Fine Arts,
York University; and Professor
Yvonne Singer, Associate Professor,
Art Studio Department of Visual Arts,
York University.
Dr. Schwartz spoke of how she
welcomed the invitation to attend
the exhibition and the importance
of visiting high schools, especially a
high school like St. Elizabeth, since
many of our graduates do move on to
Fine Art Degrees at York University.
She was particularly impressed
with the consistency of high artistic
achievement and the attention given
to ‘Conceptual and Installation’ works.
Of special note was an address by
Lorena Mackey, graduating grade
12 RAP visual art student. In her
address, Lorena stated: ‘Art and
pushing ourselves to explore our
creative talents with the help of
our friends has made our class like
a small family. Sometimes we fi ght,
sometimes we get along, but in the
end we are always there for each
other when we really need it. ‘Lorena
also noted: ’I think artists from all
grades, whether it be RAP or COMP,
feel the same pride and sense of
accomplishment from working on
their pieces and seeing their art up
and appreciated. To the younger
students, on behalf of the grade 12
class, we wish you luck in the future
years for we know just how stressful
it can be, but you will look back on
this and only remember the good
times you’ve had.’
A heartfelt ‘Th ank You’ is extended to
all the visual art students from both
the Comprehensive and Regional
Arts programs whom we are so proud
of for producing the fi ne works
of art on display and who were in
attendance with their families and
friends. A special ‘Th ank You’ is also
extended to Mr. Fabian Walsh, Vice
Principal responsible for the Arts, who
has continued to support the Arts
community with vision and leadership.
We look forward to September, when
we will embark on a new academic
year with enthusiasm and excitement
to revaluate our collective vision and
produce the magic that has become
synonymous with the visual world at

Department
On May 20, the St. Elizabeth
Wind Ensemble celebrated Mass
at St. Charles Church in Boston.
Next door was a private Catholic
school having a bake sale to
raise funds. Mr. Romano collected donations from the students in
a baseball hat and, with a couple of grade 9 students, we presented
our donation to them. Th e students of St. Charles also presented
us with a box of brownies. Th is was really a nice gesture of goodwill
that I'm sure everyone will remember. Th anks for all the support in
making this trip a great success in many ways.

Th e 2011 - 2012 school was a massive
success for the Graphic Design and Media
Arts courses. Picking up steam from last
year's accomplishments,
the students in Mr.
Galang's classes have
defi nitely upped the ante.
For a third straight year,
both grade 11 and 12
St. Elizabeth design
students participated in
the annual Sears Design
Exchange High School
Design Competition.
Celebrating its 17th year, this event has
seen participation from many schools
across the country grow in leaps and bounds
as thousands of entries poured in from
Newfoundland to Vancouver. Th is year,
two grade 12 students placed fi rst overall in
two separate categories. Inspired by style,
patterns and everything fashion, Lester
Canave's recycled laptop bag, called the
"Button Up Bag," was truly unique in every
way. JP Subido's entry into the industrial
design category was exceptional as well in
every step of the way. His "Fish in a Bowl"
concept for his water fountain was truly
revolutionary and was selected fi rst overall
among hundreds of entries
across the country. For their
1st place fi nishes, both
Lester and JP each received
a $500 cash award. Plans are
already under way for next
year's competition.
Not to be outdone, the grade
11 students stepped up as
well with several awesome
submissions of their own.
When Parkview BMW gave a call out to
designers, these students were more than
ready. Th e challenge was very simple: to

create a design for their lifestyle shopping
bags for the 2012 - 2013 shopping season.
After several entries from all over Toronto,
Louie Mangialardi, Stephanie Morretto
and Tamika Bobbitt's designs came out on
top. All three had spectacular submissions but
had to compete in an intense Facebook voting
campaign for 48 hours to determine the overall
winner. In the end, Stephanie Morretto
received the second-most votes, while Louie
Mangialardi fi nished fi rst with 245 votes. For
their eff orts, Stephanie was awarded a cash
prize of $500 and her design will be printed
on Parkview BMW’s small shopping bag. Louie,
on the other hand, was awarded $1500 and his
design will be printed on the dealership's main
shopping bag.
To close out the year, the gr. 11 Design class
received one more bit of good news. For their
CPT, the class participated in the Aboriginal
People's Television
Network's Aboriginal
Day fl ag design contest.
With an emphasis on
Aboriginal culture,
the class spent weeks
researching, designing
and rendering their fi nal
designs. Over 266 entries
were submitted from
across Canada but in the
end, it was our own Cynthia Undyantara's
design that was chosen to represent this year's
festivities. For her fi rst place prize, Cynthia will
receive $500 and will be fl own to Winnipeg to
participate in the unveiling of her fl ag at the
Aboriginal Day festivities on June 23. Her fl ag
will then be hung at the APTN's main network
building for an entire year. Congratulations
once again to all the students that participated.
More importantly, I would like to extend

Th e Track and Field Special Olympics were
held on June 5th at St. Joan of Arc CHS.
Our students had been practicing for their
events for weeks prior to the big day, and
were excited to compete and were hopeful
to win some fi rst place ribbons. New to this
year were our Best Buddies peer mentors
who came to assist with the events and
to generate ‘panther’ spirit. All of our
students did amazing! Every participant
earned ribbons in their events. A special
mention goes out to our relay team: Anthony
Lewis, Angelo Marquez, Jonathan
Tedesco and Jonathan Vitalone, who won
fi rst place in their event! A big thank
you to our Best Buddies who assisted

Th e 2012 annual marketing fair
was a great success! Th is year
Mrs. Vetro’s class focused on
bringing something new to the
table. In keeping with the theme
of Mother’s Day, the class was
able to raise money for Princess
Margaret Hospital in hopes of
helping those in need. Th rough
vigorous preparation, the
students were able to come up
with the perfect products for the community to enjoy. Th is year
they came up with new and innovative ideas such as Menchies,
espresso, chocolate roses and ice cream sundaes. Th e booths
were up and running through all three lunches. Prices ranged
from 25 cents to $4.00. Th e marketing fair was an enjoyable
experience for all. We would like to thank the St. Elizabeth
community in helping us achieve our goal. Th anks to those
at Nella’s Catering for lending us their refrigerator, as well as
the custodial staff for helping us with the clean up. Th ank you
to the staff and students for purchasing our treats during the
three days. You helped us raise $707.21. I would personally
like to thank this semester’s marketing students for their hard
work in implementing the skills learned in running a successful
business. Th ank you again to staff and students for supporting
the Marketing Fair each semester. I wish you all the best with

TRUSTEE MESSAGE
Th is past school year has witnessed the
wonderful collaboration between St. Joseph
the Worker Parish and St. Elizabeth High
School. Pastor Father Mario Salvadori
and Principal Angela Di Prima have been
instrumental in bringing the school
community closer to the parish community in
a number of ways:
Students are off ered many community
service volunteer opportunities with various
aspects of church life, such as volunteering in
the parish offi ce, assisting in catechism classes,
helping in many spiritual and social events.
Catholic Women’s League (CWL) helped put
together “Exam Survival Kits” for all Grade 9
students to ease their anxiety in preparing to
write fi nal exams.
CWL sponsored students’ activities in
the “Best Buddies” program, a national
charitable organization that operates in high
schools, colleges and universities – it enables
friendships to be created and fostered among
intellectually disadvantaged students and their
peers.
Knights of Columbus have donated to the
school a model of the development of a human
fetus to strengthen and support the Catholic
Church’s teaching of the right to life of the
unborn.
Lay Pastoral Assistant Vladimir Mamaradlo
has visited the Grade 9 students regularly
and encouraged them in their faith at
the school - many young people have had
memorable spiritual experiences and have
been transformed through the Parish Youth
Ministry. We pray that our strengthened
relationship between the parish and school

continued support of this regional program,
which has made this program a success.
We extend our sincere thanks to each
member of the Catholic School Council. Your
hard work makes St. Elizabeth the best that
it can be. Involved parents really do make
a diff erence! Best wishes to teachers and
other staff members who are retiring. We
also thank the school administrators at
St. Elizabeth Catholic High School. Your
leadership, dedication and passion for
providing quality Catholic education are
very much appreciated. We look forward
to working with you next year. May each
of you enjoy a stress-free and refreshing
