1. ALGEMENE INLIGTING
3. MISSIE, VISIE & WAARDES
Missie
By hierdie
So
- 1 -
1. GENERAL INFORMATION
Our school was opened in January 1981 and is presently managed as a
state-aided school.
2. POSITION
Our school is situated approximately 5km from the Koeberg Nuclear Power
Station. It is approximately 30 minutes travelling time from the centre of Cape
Town, and lies between the West Coast Road and the sea.
3. MISSION, VISION & VALUES
Mission
Our school considers it its task to:
• empower our learners to cope in society that is continually changing.
• teach the child in totality and optimally in a safe environment.
• equip the child with quality education through dedicated teaching.
Vision
To be recognised and respected as one of the outstanding primary schools in
the Western Cape.
Values
Our vision shall be achieved through dedicated adherence to the following
values in a Christian environment:
• respect
• self-discipline
• honesty
• integrity
• loyalty
4. REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION
Parents wishing to enrol their children at our school should fi rst determine
whether the educational concepts practised at this school are in line with their own
perceptions of the world and life in general. The Governing Body is of the opinion
that the following guidelines will help to ensure a happy school community.
4.1 Children are compelled to attend school from the beginning of the year
in which they turn seven.
4.2 We believe that education cannot occur in a vacuum and for this
reason, Religious Education is an integral part of our academic
curriculum. The convictions of all religious groups are respected.
4.3 We believe that every child should be taught in his home language. At
this school, children receive tuition in both offi cial languages, namely
English and Afrikaans. If there is no school able to accommodate an
immigrant in his home language, an exception will be made. Such a
pupil will receive tuition in either English or Afrikaans. The language
not chosen for fi rst language tuition will be taught as the additional
language. Additional assistance will be given to such a pupil.
4.4 We believe that this school must serve the needs of the community to which
it belongs. Preference will therefore be given to children who have permanent
residence within the boundaries of the local Council of Melkbosstrand.
verskil, by daardie skool aansoek te doen waar hy beter sal inpas.
5. MEDIUM VAN ONDERRIG
Huistaalonderrig (Afrikaans en Engels) - parallelmedium skool.
9. ONDERSTEUNINGSDIENSTE
Privaat remediëring, sielkundige, maatskaplike en onderrigleidingsdienste is
beskikbaar.
- 2 -
4.5 We believe that each pupil should be educated in an environment
where he feels comfortable and in which he can associate himself. For
this reason we recommend that a child who is severely handicapped,
either mentally or physically, as well as a child who is two or more
years older than his grade group, should be enrolled in a school that is
better equipped to deal with the specifi c needs of that child.
5. MEDIUM OF EDUCATION
Home language (Afrikaans and English) - parallel medium school.
6. ASSESSMENT AND ASSESSMENT REPORTS
Learners are evaluated on a continual basis so that more emphasis can be
placed on evaluation of the process rather than evaluation of the product.
By evaluating the process one is able to determine whether the pupil has
mastered the new concepts that have been taught or the concepts he/she
is expected to have mastered by that particular stage of development. This
evaluation takes place on a continuous basis during class-time. Evaluation of
the product refers rather to the pupil’s ability to recall all that has been taught
in a written examination. Learners are exposed to a variety of assessments in
order to attain projected knowledge, skills and views.
A report indicating the pupil’s progress is sent to the parents during March,
June, September and December. Parents then study and sign the report and
return it to school. Parent information sessions are arranged to give parents
the opportunity to discuss their child’s progress with the respective teachers.
7. EDUCATIONAL EXCURSIONS
Educational excursions are an extension of classroom teaching. Education
develops around the child’s experiences during such an excursion. Written
permission from the parents will be obtained before a child may accompany
the school on an excursion.
8. MUSIC LESSONS
Individual and group lessons are offered once weekly for learners from gr. 1.
Enrolment for these lessons is determined after the child has taken a music
aptitude test. Learners then receive lessons for a probationary period of
1 year. If the necessary progress has been made during the year, lessons will
continue. Regular access to the necessary instrument(s) is a prerequisite for
enrolment for individual lessons.
9. SUPPORT SERVICES
Private remedial, psychological, social welfare and educational guidance
services are available.
10. TUISWERK
prestasie verhoog. Inligting aangaande tuiswerkboekies en ‘n vasgestelde
studieprogram kan by die skool verkry word.
12.1 Omsendbriewe
Omsendbriewe kan van die webtuiste afgelaai word.
12.2 Afsprake
telefoonnommerverandering. (Dis veral belangrik in geval van siekte of nood.)
‘n Oorplasingsvorm is nodig wanneer ‘n leerder van skool verander. Stel die
sekretaresse asseblief so gou as moontlik in kennis sodat dit saam met die
leerder by sy vertrek gestuur kan word.
12.3 Tuiswerkboeke
‘n Noodsaaklike en waardevolle bron van kommunikasie.
12.4 Inligtingsaand
geleenthede.
- 3 -
10. HOMEWORK
Small amounts of homework are given to learners. We recommend that
a child be allowed to complete this homework in an environment that is
structured and free of distractions. Involvement and encouragement from
parents can enhance a child’s performance. Guidelines regarding homework
books and a regular study programme are available at school.
11. SCHOOL HOURS
School commences 08:00
12. CONTACT WITH PARENTS
12.1 Circulars
Circulars can be downloaded from the website.
12.2 Appointments
Parents always report to the school secretary before keeping an appointment
with a teacher. It is important that parents feel free to make contact through
the offi ce. Teachers are not available for appointments during school hours.
Parents visiting the school report to the secretary.
Please inform the school of any change in address or telephone number.
(This is particularly important in case of sickness or in an emergency). A
transfer form is required when a child changes schools. Please give the
secretary ample notice of your intention to leave so that the relevant transfer
papers can be issued on the day of the child’s departure.
12.3 Homework Book
An essential and invaluable source of communication.
12.4 Information Evening
Devoted mainly to providing relevant information, this is held early in the fi rst
term.
12.5 Parent Evenings
Parents are encouraged to contact the teachers. During these evenings,
parents are given the opportunity to discuss learners individually with the
class teacher. You will be notifi ed in good time of the procedures.
12.6 Social and Educational Events
The programme for the year maintains a healthy balance between social and
educational events.

Om koste te bespaar, is skooldrag so eenvoudig moontlik gehou.
15.1 Skooldrag
Leerders moet tydens skoolure in volledige skooldrag geklee wees, tensy
‘n Leerder
The Governing Body is of the opinion that a school uniform helps develop a
sense of belonging and unity. In order to keep costs to a minimum, we have
kept the school uniform as simple as possible.
15.1 School Uniform
Learners must wear the correct school uniform during school hours, unless
permission has been given by the principal to wear civilian clothes. A pupil
may wear civilian clothes on his/her birthday or on a day close to it if the
birthday falls on a holiday or over the weekend. (Clothes marked with * on
16. VERLORE GOEDERE
18. JUWELIERSWARE
Slegs horlosies mag gedra word. Mediese kentekens word nie as
juweliersware gereken nie. Slegs klein goue of silwer knoppies (“studs”)
sonder steentjies en klein oorringetjies (een per oor) sal by dogters toegelaat
word.
kontak. (Sien Gedragskode vir meer inligting.)
17. LOST PROPERTY
All unmarked clothing, lunch boxes, etc that have not been claimed within
fourteen days will be resold by the clothes bank. For this reason, it is
essential that a child’s possessions are clearly marked.
17. NEATNESS AND WELL-BEING OF LEARNERS
A pupil is a showpiece of both the school and his home. Therefore, a child
must at all times (including coming to school and going home from school)
be neatly and correctly dressed. A boy’s hair is to be kept short (i.e. cut
above the shirt-collar, the ears and eye-brows.) Once a girl’s hair reaches
her shoulders, it is to be tied up and kept in place with clips. Hair may not
be coloured (this includes artifi cial sun-streaks). Shirts may not hang out
and underwear may not show. Regular, balanced meals, adequate sleep
and establishing a good self-image will all contribute towards a child’s
performance and success. (See Code of Conduct for details.)
18. JEWELLERY
Only wristwatches (at own risk) may be worn. Medic-alert chains and
bracelets are not considered jewellery. Only silver or gold studs and small
“sleepers” (one per ear) may be worn by the girls. Studs with birthday stones
are not allowed. The school cannot be held responsible for any injuries arising
from the wearing of earrings.
19. SCHOOL BAGS
School bags with reinforced sides and bottom will ensure that both writing
books and textbooks are kept in a good condition. Only the child’s name may
appear on the outside of the school bag. Stickers and slogans, etc. are not
permitted. The school bag should be of such a size that it can accommodate
an A4 size book. (This applies to all learners from gr. 1 to gr. 7.) It is
preferable that a child has a tog bag for P.E. and sports clothes. School
bags with weels are not to be pulled in passages, but only outside on school
premises.
20. BICYCLES
Bicycles are brought to school at the owner’s risk. We recommend that you
provide your child with a lock and chain so that he can lock his bike to the
bicycle racks. Bicycles may not be ridden in the playground - they must be
pushed. Bicycles should be in a roadworthy condition at all times.
21. TUCKSHOP
The tuckshop has been privatised and sells food and snacks.
22. CELL PHONES
The school cannot take responsibility for learners’ cell phones. Cell phones
may under no circumstances be switched on or used while a class is in
progress. In the event of an emergency, parents are welcome to contact the
secretaries. (See Code of Conduct for details.)
23. SKOOLLEUSE (“SEMPER FIDELIS”)
Semper: Altyd
Fidelis: getrou, waar, presies, gehoorsaam, oplettend, vriendelik,
betroubaar, vroom, lojaal, gewillig, met integriteit, ens.
24. SIMBOLE OP SKOOLWAPEN
mekaar verbonde in ‘n hegte vennootskap.
receive no marks for the test. (Departmental requirement.)
• While a child is under the supervision of the school, he/she may not
