System solutions rather than piecework
When it comes to their requirements of an IT infrastructure, large and small companies are fairly similar: They both want to
know that the maximum possible availability of their IT systems is assured. They want information and communication around
the clock, 365 days a year and of course, the requirements of large and small companies are continually growing, at a rapid
pace. In fact, they grow just as quickly as the companies themselves are expanding. Whereas in the past, technical changes
and growth took years or even decades, these days evolution is happening on almost a monthly basis – and some of these
technical innovations are truly revolutionary. Progress was yesterday. Today, it is more a question of racing ahead.
One thing is sure: This race can only be won by a concept which is capable of continually adapting.
Efficiency throughout the line
Efficiency plans only make sense if they embrace every stage of the process, from acquisition, to operation, through to
Technology solutions and services
Ideas have always been the foundation for innovations. The motivation to develop something new is derived from the
compulsion to replace the best with something even better. These days, the concept of not sticking with old ideas not
only applies to technical innovations, but also to the services sector. Here as well, Rittal is adopting fresh approaches.
Customers are our partners, with whom we hope to achieve more together.
Convincing technology solutions
At Rittal, the spark for an ambitious development target often
comes from discussions with clients. These dialogues frequently
form the basis for research by our engineers, and
the resultant innovative development. This constructive dialogue
from the very outset – from the initial idea through to
its successful implementation – typifies the corporate culture
at Rittal. Ideas arise on site with our clients, and with our
partners around the globe. The focus is on targets such as
cost optimisation, individualisation of concepts, or shorter
response times. Above all, however, direct, face-to-face
conversations are important to us. This is our idea of customer
proximity and how it should be cultivated.
Rittal RimatriX5
The “Pay As You Grow” concept plays a pivotal role in Rittal solutions. An IT infrastructure with RimatriX5
has a modular, scalable design and is precisely tailored to the current needs of the user. If these
requirements increase, the technology may be quickly and easily extended. The benefits for the
user include: No overdimensioning, no unnecessary fixed costs, and if necessary, easy extendibility
even when the system is operational.
Impressively positive:
Total Benefit of Usership
An investment needs to pay off in the long term. Consequently, the formula for the most cost-effective calculation is as follows:
The only inexpensive investment is one which is worth its price, both at the time of purchase and in the longer term, i.e. over
its entire operating cycle. Put another way, something which may look like a bargain at first glance can conceal hidden costs.
Unfortunately, these do not only become apparent in permanent operation. This is why Rittal recommends considering all the
costs and what you will get in return.
Rittal not only considers the “Total Cost of Ownership – TCO”. We take things further – instead of TCO, we speak of TBU –
Total Benefit of Usership. TBU takes into account the benefits arising from usership of the product. You are on the right track
Less planning input
Rittal maintains a close relationship with industry practice,
and develops system components which provides users with
modularity and scalability. The result: Even at the planning
stage, the time and associated cost input can be kept
extremely low.
● Cost sensitivity from the outset, thanks to practical
planning and development and the integration of
modular and scalable components.
● Adaptive, holistic solutions help to cut total costs.
Moreover, important technical approvals provide
protection from obsolescence.
● Planning according to the “Pay as you Grow” principle.
Requirement-oriented investments and investment
security
Precise coordination with current requirements, coupled
with unrestricted investment security through flexible
expandability.
● Standardised modules are transformed into cost-effective,
customer-specific, individual solutions.
● Scalable and adaptive holistic solutions through modularity
– this not only reduces the overall costs, but also increases
investment security. Once again, “Pay as You Grow” – the
optimum principle for costs and benefits.
Lower energy and space costs
Thanks to energy-efficient systems for cooling and power
supply plus cost-effective adaptation to your requirements.
● Energy-efficient systems help to cut electricity costs.
Maximum availability, modularity and
a compact design!
Rittal PMC 200 ensures optimum availability for critical
applications by combining modularity (flexible scalability and
redundancy) with decentralised parallel architecture or DPA
(redundant protection without “single point of failure”). The
UPS modules are transformerless double-conversion UPSs
with static bypass and classification code VFI-SS-111.
This modular rack-mounted concept keeps the purchasing
and operating costs of redundant solutions low. As your
performance requirements grow, the UPS grows with you,
thanks to its flexible scalability – even in the most confined
spaces, and with the system operational.
Key benefits: Less capital tie-up, inexpensive expansion, and
minimal space requirements.
Extremely short MTTR (Mean Time to Repair)
If servicing is required, a 12 kW or 20 kW module may be replaced
with a 20 kW module, and a 32 kW or 40 kW module with a 40 kW
module. This simplifies the logistics and ensures fast, flexible, costeffective
servicing.

Power Modular Concept PMC 12
Modular output capability up to 12 kVA N+1 UPS output
The single-phase double conversion UPS (VFI-SS 111) is designed for use as a floor-standing enclosure and for 482.6 mm
(19˝) installation. A display which may be rotated through 90˚ ensures optimum operation in both installation positions. As well
as integral batteries which may be replaced in “hot swap” mode with the system operational, the 1 – 3 kVA UPS systems also
offer a USB port and two switchable EN 60 320 C13 outputs. The parallel-redundant 4.5 and 6 kVA UPS systems have the
“hot swap” functionality of the batteries in the external battery housing. Parallel redundancy switching of up to 3 UPS systems
makes it possible to achieve outputs of up to 12 kVA in parallel mode and in N+1 redundant mode. Communication is via a
serial interface. With all UPS systems, the use of an optional SNMP card is supported, which facilitates communication via the
network.
19˝ sub-distributor
Modular compact system with distribution!
The sub-distributor is mounted directly in the UPS enclosure.
This allows a compact complete system to be realised with a
0.6 m 2 footprint that contains rack-mounted modular UPS,
batteries and distribution.
Application areas in 12 kW and 20 kW UPS
The twelve-way sub-distributor is used in combination with
the modular UPS. The server racks can be attached directly
using plug & play technology.
Technical specifications:
● 482,6 mm (19˝), 6 U
● 12 outlets, three-phase
400 V/50 Hz with 10 A
● 10 A circuit-breaker
per phase, class C
Static Transfer Switch (STS)
The use of a static transfer switch allows “single-corded
devices” (devices that have only one power pack) to be
operated with a redundant power supply. STS has two
infeeds that are switched automatically. The switching
time is less than 5 ms. This ensures that sensitive devices
can be operated without interference. The “Break before
Make” transfer ensures that the load is not fed concurrently
from two sources.
Operation
The operating panel mounted on the housing front shows all
central functions and messages of the Static Transfer Switch.
All messages may also be evaluated with floating contacts.
The STS may optionally be supplemented with a quickchange
frame equipped with an external bypass. This
function allows the load to be switched manually onto the
mains for servicing purposes.
Connectivity
The optional SNMP card makes it possible for the Static
Transfer Switch STS to be integrated in a network management
system. The web server integrated in the SNMP card
provides password-protected access to the STS using a web
browser.
Rittal RimatriX5
The distributor is installed in the rear area of the enclosure
where the PSM busbars (installed in the racks) are attached
directly to the cables using plug connectors. Twelve threephase
outlets are available on the distributor, this means a
maximum of twelve racks can be supplied. In addition, 10 A
circuit-breakers are integrated for each phase. These
components are optimally adapted to the 12 and 20 kW
N+1 UPS systems.
High-Performance Cooling –
modular, scalable, efficient
Despite a dramatic rise in climate control requirements, cooling
practice in many companies has changed little in decades.
Traditional room temperature control concepts soon
reach their limitations.
The consequence: High on-going operating costs, low levels
of efficiency, a lack of investment confidence, and reduced
operational reliability.
The modular configuration and scalability of the climate
control innovation Rittal Liquid Cooling Package (LCP) help
to minimise investment costs and maximise investment
confidence, while providing sufficient scope for future
extension. The result? Solutions that are geared to your
specific requirements, which may be rapidly supplemented
or replaced as your needs change.
Performance plus with Rittal Liquid Cooling
● Energy saving potential with processor-controlled cooling
technology
● Accurate, location-precise cooling
● Systems designed for maximum operational reliability
● Simple capacity adaptation and expansion
● Space-saving installation thanks to the high thermal
capacity of water (around 3,500 times greater than air)
● Spatial separation of cooling and server rack
● Active condensate management
The ever-rising packaging density of computer systems
and the constant growth in processor capacity inevitably
lead to extremely high heat generation in a confined
space. The innovative Liquid Cooling Package (LCP)
system range from Rittal offers a way out from this
“climate dilemma”.
34 Rittal RimatriX5

High level of IT security included
Scalability, operational reliability and redundancy come as standard
with Rittal LCP. With the Liquid Cooling Package, either one or
two server racks may be cooled; stand-alone and bayed siting is
also possible (I) (II). Redundancy helps to ensure that the required
cooling output is always available, even in the event of a malfunction.
LCP Standard and LCP Plus are ideal for a redundant cooling, thanks to
the rack-optimised design (III).
The IT-compatible, automatic regulation of cooling output guarantees a
constant air inlet temperature for the server – even in the event of a fan
failure.
The super-reliable condensate management system permits low inlet
temperatures. The diffusion-sealed design of the module prevents
condensation inside the rack, which in turn means reliable processes.
The LCP systems have their own controller, which can
be integrated into a monitoring network via the
Rittal monitoring solution CMC-TC, providing
users with a comprehensive range of security
solutions.
The system range
of liquid cooling packages
The Liquid Cooling Packages (LCPs) family allows data
centres to be extended in a temperature-neutral way,
without the need for room changes. As a climate control
enclosure on the side panel of a server rack, LCP Standard
and LCP Plus solve the problem of high power losses
for each rack. LCP Extend helps to ease the pressure on
the room's existing climate control system by providing
additional cooling output. The latest dimension in highperformance
cooling is the data centre solution LCP Plus
with a cooling output of up to 40 kW per rack.
The main benefits to the user are the even distribution of cold
air in front of the 482.6 mm (19˝) level, full accessibility, and
optional cooling of one or two server racks with an LCP
Standard or LCP Plus. Thanks to the rack-optimised design,
the air/water heat exchanger is easily integrated into existing
infrastructures. Its modular design helps to keep investment
to the level currently required.
Key benefits:
● Cooling even with the server rack doors open
● Fully usable 42 U with an enclosure height of just 2000 mm
● Completely even air distribution inside the rack
● Scalable, extendible and upgradable system architecture
Physical IT rack
security with
Rittal CMC-TC
The defined availability of their IT services is, for most companies, the decisive prerequisite for
reliable and properly controlled business processes. This security of the physical IT infrastructure
begins with each single rack.
The Computer Multi Control Top-Concept (CMC-TC) from Rittal is a complete security management for
preventive protection to guard against consequential costs, and is the central organisational unit for linking
to the facility management.
● Fault and alarm messages are sent to defined service or security management systems. Data exchange
via bus systems and integration into LAN and building management configurations provide for the
transparency of all security-relevant data.
● The modular concept permits tailoring to individual requirements, while automatic sensor detection
enables plug & play expansion or 2.4 GHz wireless technology.
Through its incorporation of various preventive aspects, along with the options for integration into central
facility management systems, CMC-TC advances to become the central point of information in the data
centre.
this digital video system offers a more extensive range of additional benefits.
Rittal IP cams may be integrated into any IP existing network. Separate
structured cabling, as required in analog systems, is not necessary. This
considerably reduces the costs associated with deploying.
The Rittal video monitoring system is modular and is able to grow dynamically
along with your requirements or data centre.
One IP-Cam is sufficient for a basic system. This is easily configured and operated
Rack extinguisher system DET-AC Plus, 1 U
early fire detection
This compact rack extinguisher system DET-AC Plus (Detection Active Plus)
is designed for use in the Rittal IT rack, fitted in the 482.6 mm (19˝) level. The
system is equipped with a 2-stage smoke analysis extractor system.
The eco-friendly, non-toxic Novec 1) 1230 is used as the extinguisher gas, which
means that this extinguisher system is suitable for universal use. Sensitive
hardware such as servers, storage and switches are not impaired by the
extinguisher medium.
Due to the extremely sensitive detection of smoke, even in racks with a high level
of climate control (airflow speed), this ensures that there is plenty of time to
forward an alarm message.
In order to ensure that proper functioning of the system is maintained even in
the event of a power failure, an emergency back-up power supply with a stored
energy time of 4 hours is integrated into the system. The system can also be
supplied purely as an early fire detection system without the extinguisher.
tool for a modern IT infrastructure. A wizard guides users
automatically and logically through a catalogue of questions
to the correct RimatriX5 components. The result is a professionally
planned IT infrastructure which may be output in the
form of an IT room plan (graphical representation). Combined
with detailed parts lists, this provides an excellent
source of information on which to base individual quotes. The
IT room plan (graphical representation) and the generated
parts lists may be processed in the remote management software
RiWatchIT, which means that a central management
system is directly available for the RimatriX5IT system.
basis for monitoring visualisation.
RiWatchIT – Effective monitoring
& remote management
RiWatchIT, the monitoring software for RimatriX5, operates in
conjunction with RiGetIT. RiGetIT supplies a graphical representation
of the IT room with monitoring function data integrated
into the individual rack/UPS/power/cooling systems.
The RiWatchIT software uses this information to generate a
graphical representation of the room with allocated alarm
messages as the basis for monitoring visualisation. Any
malfunctions are displayed automatically. RiWatchIT is a
network management system tailored to RimatriX5. Data
exchange occurs in the Ethernet via SNMP.
Modular Services
are synonymous with:

Maximum security
and cost-effectiveness
Rittal RimatriX5
Performance up –
costs down.
You can do it with
Rittal RimatriX.
RimatriX5: Comprehensive service – high level of efficiency. Even if the task is not a simple one, the path
to finding a solution need not be complex. At least, not if you are with Rittal from the outset. True, the integration
of an individual rack is much more manageable than the development of a complex installation concept
for an entire IT centre. However, whether you are after a major contract or an individual solution, Rittal
approaches every task with the same high level of concentration. As far as our customers are concerned, we
take care of everything so that you have peace of mind. We “get” highly complex structures through the
trained eyes of a systems architect. We are adept at networked thinking and precision actions.
Step by step to the right solution. Generally speaking, we divide the entire process – the route from analysis
to solution – into three phases: The quotation phase, the implementation phase, and the maintenance
phase. The initial stages in phase 1 involve ascertaining the customer’s requirements, selecting a solution,
visualisation of the solution, calculation, construction meeting, more detailed specification of requirements,
and planning. In phase 2 we accompany you through to your ultimate goal. This stage is characterised by
installation, implementation and logistics. In phase 3, you have the option of agreeing a range of maintenance
and service packages with us.
The single thread that unites all these phases is service. From presales, to sales, through to postsales,
we tailor the ideal package of services to suit every module.
55

Professional RimatriX5 project management
from the word go
At Rittal the technical and the service levels are inextricably linked to one another. We not only provide complete
solutions in the technical sense. We also offer a comprehensive service in every sense of the word. This service
is a fixed component of the RimatriX5 “All-round worry-free package”. For us, the holistic idea is a concept for both
system and service; a fully integrated model which Rittal has developed to perfection with RimatriX5.
We take care of the details to put you ahead of the game.
Advice and planning:
The basis for optimum solutions
Rittal climate checks – Service packages for every aspect of IT cooling
Load tests as the optimum basis for planning.
With sensor technology for 3D analyses.
Perfect dimensioning of pipe networks
Forward planning with CFD.
Localisation of hotspots via thermography.
Load test
482.6 mm (19˝) slide-in equipment which simulates the thermodynamic response
of servers allows you to determine in advance whether your cooling system is
adequate for any planned extensions. Furthermore, after installing the LCP family
(Liquid Cooling Package), the cooling response can be tested directly, without the
presence of a server.
Intelligent wireless sensor technology
Sensors the size of a button record the temperature and humidity at specified
locations in the rack. The location and time-dependent readings are extracted
and displayed. The result is a 3D analysis of the data centre's cooling response.
Piping network calculation
The Rittal specialists use a software package to design and dimension the pipe
networks of liquid cooling systems, taking into consideration the architectural
conditions. The specifications created allow the local installation engineer to start
work immediately.
CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics)
A 3D computer simulation is used to visualise the thermodynamic response of the
planned data centre with server racks and climate control system. Predicting the
temperature, speed, pressure and hence flow conditions in the data centre
facilitates faster reaction times.
Thermography
Using a thermal imaging camera illustrates the temperature conditions (surface)
inside the data centre with colour coding, hotspots can be located and eliminated.
Implementation
Efficiency
Business continuity
With four integrative modules for
the continuous operation of IT
infrastructures.
Your targets are met in four steps:
Costs of the IT infrastructure
Total cost
Cost of failure
Availability cost
1. Holistic IT analysis and the correct strategy
With our pragmatic, targeted approach we identify IT weak
points and create the basis for a joint strategy development
and expedient risk-minimising investment decisions.
2. Planning of a high-efficiency concept
Target achievement with consideration of all cost-relevant
IT factors – never absolute and isolated, but always within
an interlinked system – describes our approach. We place
particular focus on energy efficiency for long-term cost
optimisation.
Break-even point
Availability
Break-even point
Optimum ratio of IT availability to failure
costs.
Holistic concepts
for your IT security in business
processes.
3. Perfect implementation with comprehensive know-how
All the required stages for the successful implementation of
your data centre are mastered to perfection by our experienced
specialists. Be it conversion, redevelopment, optimisation,
new construction, outsourcing strategies, security
solutions or disaster management, you can rest assured that
Litcos has the quality, deadlines and costs reliably under
control.
4. Service safeguards availability and cost-effectiveness
Efficient IT controlling means avoiding incidents and at the
same time, optimising costs. Preventive service will identify
any emerging deficiencies before they become a risk and
cost problem.
Only in this way can we achieve the high level of operational
reliablity that your company needs for efficient organisational
and production operations.
