Results of the harvesting trials held at Lelystadt (NL), Beet Europe 2010<br />

As part of the programme of Beet Europe 2010 ten beet harvesters underwent trials with a view to comparing their<br />

lifting effi ciency. The results were compiled by the Dutch Sugar Beet Institute (IRS). An extract of it published in<br />

the table below clearly shows the quality fl uctuations of the harvesters at various stages of the operating process.<br />

In view of the high yields of 95 t/ha the total harvesting losses in €/ha are however relatively low. In general a<br />

5% loss, the equivalent of ca. 160 €/ha, is unavoidable. With the total amount of wastage shown, the soil residue<br />

(share of freight cost) and the loss of sugar during storage at the edge of the fi eld in terms of beet damage are<br />

however not taken into account.<br />
