The Manor School is celebrating a successful application to convert to an academy. The Manor will be the first school in Mansfield to convert to an academy by itself, based on an assessment of the school's previous success and the potential for further improvements in the future. This decision to apply to become an academy was taken by the school's governing body in the belief that it is in the best interests of the students and community the school serves. The greater flexibility given to academies will enable the school to offer opportunities which better meet the needs of all students, leading to improved student achievement. Academy status marks a significant development in the school's history whilst at the same time offering opportunities for an exciting future. Head Teacher Jonathon Hickman commented: "We are delighted that our application to convert to academy status has been granted by the Secretary of State. The fact that the school is able to become an academy based upon its own strengths is a glowing testament to the hard work of students, staff, parents and governors in bringing about significant improvements in the school over the last few years. This was further recognised in our last Ofsted Inspection where the school was judged to be good with outstanding features, another factor which influenced the Secretary of State's decision. The move to academy status from next September is another exciting stage in the school's development - one which we will use as a catalyst to bring about further improvements in the education we offer our students." Thank you to our local Newspaper the Chad.co.uk for permitting the use of their photo in this article. Academy Update Much has happened since the school received notification that we would be come an Academy. The Governing Body has met on several occasions to agree the legal basis of the new Academy. One of the things they agreed was to change the name of the school to The Manor Academy with effect from 1st September. I have written to all new and existing parents about how the name change affects the school uniform. If you have not received this letter, then please contact the school. There is still much to do but we are confident that all will be complete by the start of the new school year. Exciting Times! Jonathon Hickman Head Teacher
