RESULT

• 79 butterfly individuals was recorded in this study

representing 51 species.

• Shannon-Weiner diversity index is H’=3.83, the

Shannon-Weiner evenness index is E’=0.97

• ICCA supports a moderate diversity of butterfly

species and they are rather evenly distributed

• According to Holloway et al. (1990), an area with

higher vegetation structure will have higher

diversity of lepidopteran species

Conclusion

• The preliminary record of our surveys are far

from exhaustive, and it is predicted that with

more extensive surveys covering more areas

and spanning a longer time frame, a more

representative inventory of the butterfly fauna

can be derived for the Imbak Canyon

Conservation Area of Sabah.
