People Using <strong>Resources</strong><br />

<br />

<br />

What resources are<br />

the people <strong>on</strong> the<br />

beach sharing?<br />

Are the resources<br />

here adequate to<br />

comfortably<br />

support the<br />

populati<strong>on</strong> of<br />

people <strong>on</strong> this<br />

beach?

Populati<strong>on</strong>s and the Use of Natural<br />

<br />

<strong>Resources</strong><br />

All organisms use resources to maintain<br />

their existence. The use of these resources<br />

has an impact <strong>on</strong> the envir<strong>on</strong>ment.

Populati<strong>on</strong>s and the Use of Natural<br />

<br />

As populati<strong>on</strong>s<br />

increase in size<br />

the demand for<br />

resources also<br />

increases.<br />

<strong>Resources</strong>

Populati<strong>on</strong>s and the Use of Natural<br />

<br />

Because<br />

resources are<br />

limited,<br />

populati<strong>on</strong>s<br />

eventually will<br />

reach the<br />

carrying capacity<br />

of the<br />

envir<strong>on</strong>ment and<br />

stop growing.<br />

Populati<strong>on</strong>s and the Use of Natural<br />

<strong>Resources</strong><br />

<br />

At early<br />

stages,<br />

populati<strong>on</strong>s<br />

grow<br />

exp<strong>on</strong>entially.<br />

<strong>Earth</strong> is<br />

currently<br />

experiencing a<br />

human<br />

populati<strong>on</strong><br />

explosi<strong>on</strong>.

<br />

What can you infer<br />

from this photo about<br />

the amount of<br />

garbage a city<br />

produces and the<br />

amount of space<br />

needed to dispose of<br />

it?<br />

What problems might<br />

occur if the city<br />

c<strong>on</strong>tinues to produce<br />

the same amount of<br />

garbage?

<str<strong>on</strong>g>Human</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Impact</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong> Land <strong>Resources</strong><br />

<br />

<br />

Modern societies require large<br />

amounts of land resources. The<br />

extracti<strong>on</strong> of land resources can<br />

disrupt <strong>Earth</strong>’s <strong>Earth</strong> s surface.<br />

Growing populati<strong>on</strong>s increase the<br />

demand for food. Food producti<strong>on</strong><br />

can cause habitat loss, erosi<strong>on</strong> and<br />

water polluti<strong>on</strong>.

<str<strong>on</strong>g>Human</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Impact</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong> Land <strong>Resources</strong><br />

<br />

<br />

Urban development causes habitat<br />

loss, increased erosi<strong>on</strong> and polluti<strong>on</strong><br />

of nearby areas.<br />

The impact of using land resources<br />

can be minimized through the use of<br />

modern techniques such as<br />

reclamati<strong>on</strong> and bioremediati<strong>on</strong>.
