also fashioned out DRGs-funded projects toward
meeting the targets enumerated above.
A total of 7,190 intervention projects in the 2009
budget were geared towards achieving Goal 7 of
the MDGs on sustainable development. The
projects were spread among different MDAs
including Federal Ministry of Housing, which had
182 projects, the Federal Ministry of Police
Affairs with 41 projects (worth N500m) and the
Federal Ministry of Defence with 24 projects.
Special Projects in the Quick-Wins Sector (with
3,039 projects worth N5.981bn) and the
Conditional Grants Sector (with 3,904 projects
worth N19.883bn) were appropriated.
Five interventions dealing mainly with the
maintenance of the National Parks focused on
ensuring the sustainability of the nation‘s endemic
flora and fauna attempted to address Target 9. The
interventions were managed by Federal Ministry
of Environment.
Under the 10 th target, 6,114 water supply projects
were earmarked with 2,158 of them under the
Quick-Wins and 3,775 under the CGS special
interventions. Also 900 public toilet projects
aimed at improving basic sanitation were
proposed. 771 of these projects were under Quick-
Wins and 129 of them were components of the
CGS.
With regards to Target 11, there are a total of 271
interventions with 240 in the Housing Sector
aimed at upgrading slums (construction of roads
and drainages, street lights, civic centres, etc.) and
31 projects in the Police sector dealing with
housing improvements in police barracks.
Findings
A total of 4,621 projects (or 64% of the total) were
reported on. The average percentage completion
of these projects is 59.6%, with a % quality
compliance of 50.31%. The breakdown of the
status of these projects is as follows:

Overall, about 53% of the projects in Goal 7 had
been completed at reporting time; 20% were ongoing;
3% appeared to have been abandoned; 21%
not started and 4% were not located. This finding
is demonstrated graphically in the pie chart below.
