area can be viewed on survey <strong>of</strong> India Topo-sheet No. 73 L/12 and covers<br />
two periods 1929 and 1972.<br />
6. The Kujang ex-estate was vested in <strong>the</strong> government (Revenue<br />
department Notification No. 6934- EA –29/52-R) on 27 November, 1952,<br />
page 9, Annexure B3). After this <strong>the</strong> administration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> forest was<br />
taken over by Anchal Adhikari, Kujang. Large areas <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> estate had<br />
been leased out by <strong>the</strong> ex- intermediary and <strong>the</strong>re was nei<strong>the</strong>r map nor<br />
systematic record <strong>of</strong> rights <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> lands leased out. The <strong>to</strong>tal area <strong>of</strong><br />
forests <strong>of</strong> Kujang Anchal prior <strong>to</strong> vesting with Revenue department was<br />
55, 501 acres (22, 461 hectares) <strong>of</strong> which some 25, 692 acres (10.397<br />
hectares) were leased <strong>to</strong> local people and some Midnapur settlers by <strong>the</strong><br />
Zamindars. Some 7228 acres (2925 hectares) were taken by Paradeep<br />
Port as per Political and Services Department Notification No. 192.P<br />
dated 6th January, 1958.<br />
IV. Survey <strong>of</strong> 1958 and Record <strong>of</strong> <strong>Rights</strong><br />
7. On June 7, 1958 <strong>the</strong> Revenue Department’s notification was<br />
issued <strong>to</strong> initiate a survey <strong>to</strong> and record <strong>of</strong> rights be prepared in respect<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Forest</strong> blocks <strong>of</strong> Kujang Tahsils lying within <strong>the</strong> external boundaries <strong>of</strong><br />
Ersama, Tir<strong>to</strong>l and Mahaklapada police stations in <strong>the</strong> district <strong>of</strong><br />
Cuttack. Some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> particulars recorded in <strong>the</strong> survey and settlement<br />
are as follows;-<br />
i) The name <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> tenant<br />
ii) The class <strong>to</strong> which <strong>the</strong> tenant belongs (Tenure holder,<br />
bajyaptidar,<br />
raiyat, occupancy raiyat, non-occupancy raiyat, tenure holder,<br />
permanent or not etc)<br />
iii) The situation and quantity and one or more boundaries <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
land<br />
held by tenant or occupier)<br />
iv) The name <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> tenant’s landlord,<br />
v) The rent payable at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> records –<strong>of</strong>-rights,<br />
vi) If <strong>the</strong> rent is gradually increasing and <strong>the</strong> steps <strong>of</strong> increase,<br />
vii) The mode <strong>of</strong> rent fixation,<br />
viii)The rights and obligations <strong>of</strong> each tenant in respect <strong>of</strong> water<br />
for<br />
agricultural use and water source.
