<strong>Stack</strong>-on-a-Card HD 3
Signaling Solutions from Tieto provides a turnkey signaling platform for integration
with telecom applications like location-based or prepaid services,
messaging, voice over IP, softswitch and IMS solutions.
Product overview
<strong>Stack</strong>-on-a-Card HD 3 from Tieto is a fully embedded hardware and software signaling solution for compactPCI-based
systems. It is designed for system integrators, application developers and network operators implementing SS7, SIP or
Diameter connectivity in a cPCI system.
Key benefits
The main benefit of the <strong>Stack</strong>-on-a-Card product is
that all Signaling protocol software executes in a closed
environment aka “Signaling Blackbox” and does not
affect the customer’s application environment and/
or platform, and vice versa. This means that signaling
capacity and availability can be guaranteed.
The <strong>Stack</strong>-on-a-Card HD 3 product is based on the
Tieto Horizontal Distribution architecture – HD, which
provides the following benefits:
» Performance – The performance scales linearly by
using multiple SoaC boards in a system.
» Scalability - The system is easily scalable by adding
several SoaC boards. Traffic load is automatically
distributed over the available SoaC boards.
» HW / SW Maintenance - The configuration is not
fixed, meaning that it is possible to add or remove
SoaC boards without bringing the whole system
down.
» Redundancy - Redundancy is provided by using
several SoaC boards and by using only one Local
Signaling Point (OPC / DPC)
Features
» Standalone or High-Availability (99,999%) with HD
configuration (up to 16 SoaC boards in a single
system)
» Up to 16, 1.5/2 Mbps E1, T1 and J1 front-panel
interfaces with up to 496 Low Speed links per controller
board or up to 16, 2 Mbps High Speed Links
over ITU Q.703 Annex A or ATM
» Up to eight Gigabit Ethernet interfaces on front-panel
» Three Gigabit Ethernet interfaces per board for
management and application server connectivity
(using signaling API’s)
» High capacity:
• > 60,000 TCAP transactions/second per SoaC
board
(RFC 4165), M3UA (RFC 4666) and SCTP (RFC
4960)
» SIP - Session Initiation Protocol in compliance with
IETF RFC 3261, 3262 and more
» Diameter Protocol in compliance with IETF RFC
3588 and 3539
The product is delivered complete with software, communication
boards, and documentation for easy integration
with the application environment.
System architecture
Tieto Horizontal Distribution architecture is a concept
where there are multiple <strong>Stack</strong>-on-a-Card’s performing
in parallel. Signaling traffic is load-shared over the
available SoaC boards.

PRODUCT SHEET Signaling Solutions
All signaling SW and HW are supervised and if a
board malfunctions, traffic is automatically rerouted to
other available boards. The supervisor function will try to
restart the failing signaling SW and/or HW.
As soon as a SoaC boards becomes available, it will
automatically start to process signaling traffic. All
SoaC boards in an HD system will share the same
network address, i.e. Point Code).
The system is scalable; if more performance is
required one or more SoaC boards can be added in
runtime up to 16 boards.
The HD system can handle up to 2048 signaling links,
with 496 links per SoaC board. These links can be fed
either by the on-board E1/T1/J1 connectors (1.5/2
Mbps) or by using SIGTRAN.
