Tieto Integrated Paper Solution TIPS
– integrated solution for the pulp, paper, board and tissue industries
TIPS Trim Optimisation
Reduce costs by
automation
Tieto Integrated Paper Solution
(TIPS) is a comprehensive sales
and production management
solution for the pulp, paper,
board and tissue industries.
TIPS Trim, an integral part of the
Tieto Integrated Paper Solution
TIPS, is a versatile tool used
to create and optimise cutting
plans for the pulp and paper
Industry.
Although initially designed for paper products,
TIPS Trim is equally at home with any twodimensional
products (steel, textiles, film
etc). The program includes the most modern
mathematical methods and is easy to operate.
It may be easily configured to a mill’s specific
requirements.
Key benefits
TIPS Trim can be used as part of a logistics
solution, in combination with other software
tools (i.e. in-house programs) or as a singleuser-solution
for the planner. Interfaces for
reading order data, writing the order progress
and exchanging cutting plans (i.e. to a
production control system) are available for
data exchange with external systems.
Fast planning and re-planning for order changes and short-term orders
Quick and simple re-planning for production changes
Minimization of waste and slitting knife changeover costs through ‘optional orders’
(side tracks, replenishment orders)
Comprehensive management of raw material and products
User-friendly functions for manual revision of cutting plans (drag & drop)
Enables QuickTrim inside TIPS Plan for instant overview during run creation
in TIPS Plan
Ability to select and add additional orders directly into TIPS Trim if required for
cutting plan improvement
Automation
Trim optimisation is an up-to-the-minute, multistage
algorithm module focused on automatic creation of
cutting plans and material requirement lists. However,
manual operations are also possible at each planning
stage.
The system extensively supports the planner in checking
and changing cutting plans or with single figures. While
the planner is able to change and re-enter all details
of the cutting plan manually, the system automatically
calculates the corresponding actual planning parameters
such as production quantities, waste figures and order
completion. In addition, it is possible to work with and
compare several alternative cutting plans (solutions) for
the same problem. So all kinds of cutting processes
(like winders, re-winders, sheet cutters, duplex cutters,
guillotines, etc) are supported and patterns are created
automatically for all stages at once.
Optimisation
All algorithms of TIPS Trim are based on the latest
mathematical methods utilizing more than 25 years of
development experience in trim optimisation.
This includes the know-how of the planners and the
specific requirements of the production processes.
• Low material costs
• Lowest possible margin waste
• Cost-effective selection of raw materials
• Reduced stock
• Shortest machine downtimes caused by changeovers
or material changes
• Observance of the order quantities and customerspecific
order data such as minimum and maximum
roll diameter (and more than 50 other restrictions for
orders)
• Consideration of given priorities
• Automatic planning of re-winders and simplex/duplex
crosscutters
Re-trimming and
Quality-based Re-trimming
In addition to the planned trimming process TIPS Trim
also supports all kinds of re-planning processes during
on-going production, typically known as re-trimming.
This allows planners to react easily and immediately to
changing situations, like order cancellations, production
problems, priority changes, etc. TIPS re-trimming also
considers the available quality data and measurements of
existing raw materials, like bad spots on machine reels,
and allows creation of optimal alternative options.
Automatic functions
• Automatic planning proposals
• Automatic consideration of half-finished products
(intermediate store and available stock)
• Automatic observance of all machine restrictions
• Automatic creation of all required parent reels
in preparation for rewinding or sheeting
• Automatic output of production plans (cutting plans)
TIPS Trim reduces production costs
Increasing machine capacity
• Machine operation times are considered in the
automatic optimisation and additional
manual planning
• The number of slitting knife settings/changeovers
is reduced
• Planning without delay;
possibility of short-term replanning
Reducing material costs
• High exploitation of width and length
• Consideration of raw material costs
• Low deviation from ordered quantities
Integration
TIPS Trim is available:
• With full integration in the TIPS product line
• With a certified interface to SAP/SCM
• With a standard interface for integration with third
party systems
• As an internet service (TIPS WebTrim)
