enrolled in their second year. Awarded on the basis of academic achievement (minimum GPA of 2.4). Applicants<br />

must attach a letter explaining any personal interest in soil conservation, relevant environmental<br />

horticulture/Turfgreass cultural strategies, urban forestry, ecosystem restoration, or the maintenance of<br />

biodiversity. *Special Note*: The Student <strong>Awards</strong> department will shortlist the applicants, but the donor<br />

wishes to select the recipient on an annual basis. If there are no applicants or no suitable candidates<br />

for the scholarship, the donor reserves the right to award the scholarship to a student entering a full time<br />

program at GPRC’s Fairview Campus.<br />

The <strong>Awards</strong> Program, coordinated through the Financial Aid and <strong>Awards</strong> offi ce, provides fi nancial assistance, incentives and rewards to<br />

eligible students to encourage them in their pursuit of post-secondary education. GPRC awarded over $270,000 in scholarships, awards,<br />

and bursaries last year.<br />

<strong>Scholarships</strong> are awarded to students on the basis of academic merit or excellence.<br />

<strong>Awards</strong> reward academic achievement but also require the recipient to demonstrate special qualities<br />

that match the priorities of the donor, such as community involvement or fi nancial need.<br />

<strong>Bursaries</strong> are awards based on fi nancial need and reasonable academic standing.<br />

Application Deadlines<br />

The deadlines below are general guidelines.<br />

• Entrance awards - closes mid-October, awarded before Christmas break<br />

• <strong>Bursaries</strong> - closes just before Christmas break, awarded in February or March.<br />

• <strong>Scholarships</strong> - open in March, close the middle of April. These are awarded at the end of May<br />

• College awards - awarded in late Spring after programs close so instructors may nominate as per award criteria<br />

2 @ $750 Any Students should have no previous post-secondary education and be registered in the fi rst year of any<br />

full-time program of two or more years at any of the Fairview Campus. Preference will be given to someone<br />

who has had to re-locate more than 100 km from his/her permanent residence to attend campus. The<br />

award will be based on superior academic achievement. A student will be ineligible if they are receiving<br />

other awards totaling $3,500 or more for the current academic year.<br />

<strong>Bursaries</strong><br />

2 @ $500 Any Based on fi nancial need and satisfactory academic achievement (minimum 2.5 out of 4.0 grade point<br />

average), the bursary is available for post secondary full time (as defi ned by the Educational Institution)<br />

education at the Fairview Campus. ) The bursary is awarded to AUPE Members in good standing, retired<br />

deceased members. All dependents must be under the age of 25 years. Consideration will be made for<br />
