PTFE tapes and fabrics are often used in applications that require high temperature resistance and non-stick properties. This group consists of three different classifications of tape: skived, stiff (high modulus), and fabric. KEY CHARACTERISTICS OF PTFE TAPES: Non-stick surface Low coefficient of friction makes it very slick Chemical resistant High temperature range (-100ºF-500ºF) Adhesive backing makes it easy to apply 2045 PTFE TAPE (SKIVED) Skived PTFE tape is made by skiving a PTFE billet into a film. It is then etched and the appropriate adhesive is applied to it. Economical grade Lowest strength and lowest modulus (stiffness) PTFE film Often used in applications that require a low coefficient of friction but exceed the service temperature range of UHMW (above 225ºF) Conformable to irregular surfaces Common thicknesses: .003", .005", .010" Brown or gray color, no liner 2815 PTFE COATED GLASS FABRIC TAPE This tape is made by taking fiberglass cloth and dipping it into PTFE resin. This dipping process continues until the desired weight or thickness is achieved. Then the tape is etched on one side and the appropriate adhesive is applied. The cloth makes the tape more durable and dimensionally stable but less conformable than unreinforced PTFE tapes Dimensionally stable Durable, resistant to tears, punctures, abrasion, and wear Common thicknesses: .003", .005", .006", .010", .014" Brown color, no liner 2045 PTFE TAPE (SKIVED) PERFORMANCE: 2255 PTFE TAPE (HIGH MODULUS) High modulus PTFE tape is made through a process that takes thick PTFE film and stretches it into a thinner film. In this case, the stretching process is used to create film that is strong and stiff in one direction. High modulus (stiffness) in the machine direction, low modulus in the transverse direction Strong and durable Conformable to irregular surfaces Common thicknesses: .002", .003", .005" Brown color, no liner 2285/2283-2 PTFE TAPE (EXTRUDED, ORIENTED, HIGH MODULUS) High modulus PTFE tape is made through a process that takes thick PTFE film and stretches it into a thinner film. In this case, the stretching process is used to create film that is strong and stiff in two directions.
