6 INDUSTRY<strong>NEWS</strong> PEOPLE, EVENTS AND INSTALLATIONS Nova Scotia Printer Makes $10 MILLION Investment Advocate Printing & Publishing, Atlantic Canada’s largest independent printer, has made a $10 million investment to its printing operation in Pictou, Nova Scotia including the purchase of a Goss M600 heatset commercial press, the largest single purchase in the company’s 115-year history. “This investment means that Advocate’s Pictou plant will be the most modern and advanced heatset printing facility in eastern Canada and allows us to expand our business in the Maritimes but also right across the country and into the US.” said Sean Murray, CEO. The new press, suited to publication and other commercial print work, is expected to increase the company’s capacity by 300 percent, . Allianz Capital Partners will control 65% of the JV with MAN retaining 35%. “I feel proud and enthusiastic about this new development,” said Gerd Finkbeiner, MAN Roland CEO at IPEX. The plan is to make the business fit for public listing in 3 to 5 years. “The company must be able to show the market that it can grow over this time period,” said Finkbeiner. Gerd Finkbeiner, CEO of MAN Roland PELADEAU Steps Aside After two years as president and CEO of Quebecor World, Pierre Karl Péladeau is moving over to run the family’s media division and handing the print job to American Wes Lucas, the former chairman, president and CEO of top ink supplier Sun Chemical Corp. During Péladeau’s tenure Quebecor World launched a company-wide retooling plan and carried out aggressive streamlining of operations including the sell-off of its commercial sheetfed printing Wes Lucas, appointed CEO of Quebecor World Pierre Karl Péladeau, CEO of Quebecor Media division. Last year Quebecor World reported revenues of US$6.3 billion and posted a loss of US$149 million. Lucas, a Harvard Business School graduate, joined Sun Chemical in August 2001 with a previous background with global industrial chemical operations. This will be his first printing company experience. He’s slated to begin at Quebecor World May 11.
