Entertainment industry . . . Jarvee

simple concept, as old as humanity
itself. Embracing diversity?
Well, that’s a relatively
newer concept. 2012 marks a
20-year milestone for Jarvee
Hutcherson, recognized since
1992, in Tinseltown and around
the world, as the man, the visionary,
the guiding force behind
the Multicultural Motion
Picture Association (MMPA)
and its landmark Diversity
Awards, bringing everyone in
the industry together, spotlighting
every facet of diversity in
motion picture and television
entertainment.
Hutcherson reflects with a
smile, “20 years strong. The
Diversity Awards celebrates diversity
at its core, encompassing
all of us. Each year represents
a new milestone. The
diversity concept was difficult
at first for some in the industry
to grasp. Thankfully, MMPA’s
Educational and Development
Scholarship fund was something
everyone could get behind
and lend their support.
The Diversity Awards caught
on and quickly evolved into a
first-class, yearly awards event
honoring diversity’s shining
stars, from A-list legends and
key industry professionals to
talented newcomers on the
rise.”
While Hutcherson is pleased
that the MMPA and the Diversity
Awards have accomplished
a lot over the years and feels
that more people are embracing
its message, he is quick to point
out his goal to educate everyone
in this regard. “Diversity
defines every single one of us.
It means that no one is left
out. Diversity is simply a fact
of life, representing the great
melting pot of humanity.”
A much anticipated yearly kickoff
to the movie awards season,
the Diversity Awards have to
date been conspicuously without
a network broadcast home.
Hutcherson is confident that
now is the time for the awards
show, taped for syndication
since 2006, to plug into the perfect
network outlet and launch
in a big way. “We are currently
negotiating for a major TV or
Cable network to embrace the
diversity mantle in 2012 and
give the Diversity Awards the
full scale, prime time exposure
it deserves. With Hollywood’s
biggest players in attendance,
the awards gala is exciting, fun
and entertaining. Above all,
the awards recognize that we
all have a story to tell, we’re
all here together, and honoring
diversity as a key element to
today’s entertainment gives the
Diversity Awards a distinctive
edge over all the many kudos
shows currently grappling for
top TV ratings.”
The Diversity Awards’ past
honorees and presenters reflect
the diversity and renown
of Hollywood’s brightest and
most influential and notable
stars, activists, directors, producers
and accomplished entertainers.
To name but a few

As to where Hutcherson places
himself in the scheme of diversity
in 2012 and beyond, “I
consider myself a person who
promotes diversity, not just because
we have an awards show,
but because diversity in entertainment
is what I believe in and
stand for. So I continue reaching
out and attending the various
premieres and events everywhere
to support and represent
diversity. Bottom line, diversity
needs to be addressed and
seriously recognized at every
level of the industry, by all the
networks and studio hierarchy,
from CEO’s to chairmen, VPs
and presidents. Conscientious
participation, encouragement
and acceptance at all levels.
The Diversity Awards is an integral
part of that larger mission
of diversity. The horizon is unlimited
and with each new decade,
diversity’s amazing potential
will more fully present itself
to everyone!

Hey everyone! How was your
weekend? Mine, was great.
First, it was wonderful to see
so many people celebrating Dr.
Martin Luther King and what
a great thing for the Inauguration
to happen on that same
day. Equality and a great history
graced us and that is truly
something to ponder on and
appreciate. Over the weekend
I got a chance to do something
that I long for but don’t often
get the opportunity to do which
was read the Wall Street Journal.
The Wall Street Journal
is a great source of financial
information, historical stories
and futuristic tidbits and dis-
coveries.
For instance, as much as I love
and buy soda I just found out
that stocks are down a smidgen
because people are really
into coffee, energy drinks, water
and juices. Wow! I’ve also
found out that stocks are high
in socks, very interesting. They
also talk about the “Gun Control”
issue from a financial
stand point and many other issues.
My mind was in need of
being seriously stimulated on
an intellectual level and I received
that. Stay tuned when I

Convened for their first meeting
of the year on Martin Luther
Kings Original birthday.
There was full attendance
which overflowed into the hall
and first floor T.V. room. The
hot topic was changing the time
of the meetings from 7:30 p.m.
to 1:00 p.m.
The next question was the validity
of the 100 plus senior
citizens who allegedly signed
the papers.
The issue was safety that they
would be out late at night.
However the population of
those that were present were
predominantly seniors. One
person suggested that it be put
on the ballot, another in the
crowd said there could be a city
shuttle bus to the meetings.
Parking tickets given on holidays
for street cleaning is not
acceptable without notification
is under appeal by a resident.
The Mayor has been accused of
violating the Brown Act, that
simply states that there was a
pre-meeting on a topic, that was
not authorized, in which some
council members attended. He
later cleared himself. Several
mentions of too high water increase.
City had to buy water at
a higher rate was one answer,
and the method of calculating
was another. Planning Dept.
Got their share of the hot seat,
when it came to finding information
as to sound proofing.
Commercial and apartments
seem to be getting special treatment
over 30yr residents and
the time frame for service is
unknown or changes without
answers.
During the holidays the 4th
District received a pleasant surprise
from church helper about
