the Hon Rob Knowles
the chair
presented a challenging year for the
2010 Institute as we strove to provide a
solid performance in uncertain financial times. It was
recognised early in the year that a responsive reaction
to this fiscal challenge was imperative and a number of
strategic initiatives were set in place in order to secure
the Institute’s future.
A milestone event for the Institute was the move to
the University of Adelaide. The Institute now holds
the status of a School within the Faculty of Health
Sciences. This move represents the culmination of
many months of complex discussion and consultation.
It has been challenging to move to new systems and
frameworks but I am pleased to report that the move
was relatively seemless with regard to service delivery
to our members.
During the year the Institute also continued with
negotiations with Wolters Kluwer Health in the United
States. The result has seen a formal publishing
agreement in relation to the Institute’s PACEsetterS
publication and a formalised relationship with the group
regarding international membership sales moving
forward. This is an incredible accomplishment for the
Institute and positions it on the international stage in
a way it never has been before. The Committee of
Management feels strongly that this move will facilitate
a strong and secure future for the Institute and we
are excited about the new opportunities that such a
partnership brings.
While the financial stability of the Institute was a primary
focus this year, so too was innovation. Therefore, at
the close of the year we realigned our strategic plan
and organisational matrix to ensure that we continue
to challenge and stretch our organisation and to
drive evidence-based healthcare forward. This can
only be achieved by ensuring a lively and energetic
and creative approach to the development of new
strategies and solutions to advance evidence informed
care in modern and developing health environments.
The new strategic plan and organisational matrix serve
to ensure these things remain sharply in focus and on
our agenda over the next four years.
Our ability to continue to service our international
membership throughout this time of major change
and upheaval is testimony to quality of our resources
and the determination, commitment and hard work of
our staff and our international collaboration.
The Committee of Management is optimistic about
the future of the Institute and its ability to contribute
significantly to the improvement of global health
outcomes. This optimism stems from our confidence
in the Institute’s performance and influence within the
evidence-based healthcare environment,
growing synergies with other like
organisations and the realisation of an
increase in the breadth and depth of
information and service provision to
existing and future members.
