The first half found the Flying
Squadron playing a listless game

to play at seventeen all. Then Bock
sank one to make the county 17-19.
But not to be outdone, Harner tied
thf; score again at 19 all. Then
M ,ndy came through with a beauty
and put V. M. I. into a 21-19 lead
and sank one of the prettiest shots
ever seen. to win.

N. C. STATE GAME
On Jar_ 21 in the first Conference
game of the season, V. M. L went
down fighting < to a Z0 to 24 defeat,
to the fast X. C. State team. It was
a Tight al ithe way through, and it
was anybody's game until the final
whistle.
The first half saw the Flying
Squadron in true form, and the
rangy Carolinians found a defense
that couldn't be penetrated. Hamer
and Falkerson were making counters
from all over the floor, while Froat
and Mondy were running the floor
in fine style. Bat rt was B.shop who
was giving the State team the jobs
which prevented higter scores. Time
and again, the State outfit rallied
and started down tbe floor only to
lose the ball to a V. M. L guard.
But in the second half, with Bishop
out of the game, tbe Carolina boys 1
seemed to find a way through the
defense and make the counters.
Though, fought off, the fast State
team just got "right" and displayed
real championship ball. Time and
again, tbe Carolina guards intercepted
a pass and either dribbled to
shooting distance, or started a well
formed passing attack that usually
ended in a ringer.
For V. M. I. Hamer, Frost and
Mondy were the outstanding luminaries,
while Brown, Watkins, Mc-
Dowell, and Spenee shone for N". C.
State. But both teams played very
good games.
