Get Ready to Laugh Your Antlers Off!

What happens at deer camp stays at deer camp! Appearing at the

Schauer Arts & Activities Center on Saturday, October 29, Deer

Camp: The Musical follows four fearless deer hunters on their annual

trek to deer camp. But after decades of hunting trips, the guys have

yet to bring home a single deer and their wives are getting suspicious.

Audiences will laugh and sing along as the four mighty hunters hatch

a plan to save their hunting paradise without firing a shot.

Featuring hilarious songs like Mighty Hunters, She’s Playing Bingo,

If I Were A Male Dancer, Coupon Clippin’ Ladies, River of Brew, and

The Grunt Horn Song, the Deer Camp cast includes two members of

Newhart fame: Tony Papenfuss and John Voldstad. Tony Papenfuss,

best known for his role as “My Brother Darryl” on the ‘80s sitcom,

has guest starred on many television shows, including Seinfeld,

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Murphy Brown, Roswell, and Providence.

John Voldstad, who played “My Other Brother Darryl,” went on to

appear in notable films such as Forrest Gump, Ghostbusters, Stripes,

and 1941.

In addition to the performances, an Outdoor All Season Sports Expo

is being held in Pikes Peak from 12:00-7:30 pm. Funded in part

by Cabela’s, the Expo features everything for outdoor sports and

recreation, including fishing, camping, hunting, and more. Outdoor

Wisconsin’s Dan Small will also be making a special appearance.

Admission to the Expo is free with Deer Camp ticket purchase or $5

per person without show ticket.

Tickets to see Deer Camp are $33 or $29 for adults and $31 or $27 for

students. Slinger residents may receive $4 off adult tickets to the evening

performance; discount must be requested prior to purchase, some restrictions

apply. Tickets can be purchased at the Schauer Center Box Office

Monday through Friday from 11:30 am to 5:30 pm and Saturday from

11:30 am to 2:00 pm at 147 N. Rural Street in Hartford, charge by phone at

Tips on your new friend

What are your plans for October 15, 2011? If you don’t have any

plans, bring your family and pets to Petco (Where the Pets Go) in

10am until 5pm. Local artist Rex Rubenzer will also be there

doing pet characters of your pets from 1pm till 4pm. There will be

a costume contest for pets from 2pm-2:30pm and trick or treating

for pets at 1pm.

So to sum it all up: Where: Petco in West Bend on Paradise Dr. When:

October 15. Who: you, your family, and your pets. Remember, that if you

don’t have a pet and are looking for one, The Shih Tzu rescue will be there

adopting out amazing Shih Tzu. So please come and check out the Shih Tzu

and enjoy all of the other things going on October 15th. If you have any

Hartford Union High School and Slinger High School teamed up this fall to “Tackle Cancer

Together.” Both schools sold team t-shirts with the Tackling Cancer Together phrase to their students,

staff, and community to be worn at the HUHS vs. Slinger football game on September 23.

The proceeds of the shirts were to benefit the American Cancer Society’s “Coaches Vs. Cancer”

organization. The following donors purchased the shirts for the schools, so that 100% of the shirt

sales would go straight to the organization: Ewald’s Hartford Ford Dealership, Interwoven Group,

Emmer Real Estate, and Dan Vogds Trading.

Thanks to the support of local students, staff, and fans, together Hartford Union High School and

Slinger High School raised $10,341!

Emergency Training Class

The Hartford Fire Department will host a three day Community

Emergency Response Team Training (CERT) October 19, 21

and 22 at the Hartford Fire Station. The training is free and open to

the public for both individuals and groups with a registration and

$20 refundable deposit. Students aged 14 and up are welcome to

attend with a parent or adult sponsor.

CERT teaches members of neighborhoods, community organiza-

®

tions and businesses important survival and emergency response

skills needed when disaster strikes.

“Professional responders must prioritize their response in a

disaster based on the overall incident needs. With CERT basic

training, citizens can help themselves and their neighbors until

professional help arrives” said Hartford Fire and Rescue Chief Paul

J. Stephans. “This training is ideal for condo associations, churches,

neighborhood groups and businesses to help minimize the impact

of a disaster”.

CERT is a 20-hour training conducted over 3 days which

includes: Disaster Preparedness, Fire Safety, Light Search and

Rescue, Emergency Medical Operations and Disaster Psychology.

The training concludes with a simulated disaster exercise where

participants work in teams for a hands-on experience to practice

their newfound skills.

“I learned as much about what NOT to do in an emergency as I

did about what I should do to keep myself from becoming a victim

and to help protect those around me” commented Deborah Knepler,

Outreach Coordinator for Citizen Corps of Washington County.

“Anyone who has responsibility for the care or oversight of others

should definitely take this training. The fact is we each become the

very first responder when disaster strikes—let’s make sure we know

what we’re doing!”

Class size is limited so register now. Deadline to register is

Tuesday, October 18th.

For more information or to register for CERT training, contact Citizen

Corps of Washington County at (262) 338-8256 or via email at
