Two new <strong>in</strong>termodal conta<strong>in</strong>er h<strong>and</strong>l<strong>in</strong>g term<strong>in</strong>als, HTA<br />

<strong>Hupac</strong> Term<strong>in</strong>al <strong>Antwerp</strong> <strong>and</strong> the <strong>Comb<strong>in</strong>ant</strong> Term<strong>in</strong>al, were<br />

put <strong>in</strong>to operation at the beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g of 2010. <strong>Antwerp</strong> is one<br />

of the important transshipment gates <strong>for</strong> European freight<br />

traffic. Approximately 35 tra<strong>in</strong>s per week are <strong>in</strong> transit<br />

between <strong>Antwerp</strong> <strong>and</strong> the European Economic Area, as<br />

well as with Russia. Also the maritime traffic from overseas<br />

merges <strong>in</strong> <strong>Antwerp</strong> with the domestic traffic from local<br />

<strong>in</strong>dustries <strong>in</strong> the area.
