Recycling & Refuse<br />
<strong>the</strong> city of lake Forest has a voluntary curbside recycling<br />
program for <strong>the</strong> collection of many fiber products (paper),<br />
metal and aluminum cans, glass (clear, brown, green) and<br />
plastic containers #1 – 5 and #7. For instruction on proper<br />
preparation of recyclables for pick-up or for fur<strong>the</strong>r information,<br />
please call 615-4264 or visit <strong>the</strong> city of lake Forest's web site at<br />
www.cityoflakeforest.com.<br />
curbside recycling collection is weekly on one of <strong>the</strong> regular<br />
garbage pick-up days (mon./thurs. or tues./Fri.). one bin is<br />
supplied by <strong>the</strong> city to each single family household; additional<br />
bins can be purchased for $10. materials do not need to be<br />
separated.<br />
all of this material may also be taken to <strong>the</strong> compost center<br />
during <strong>the</strong> following hours as noted below.<br />

no commercial contractor use of this facility is allowed. residents<br />
using <strong>the</strong> site must display ei<strong>the</strong>r a current lake Forest vehicle<br />
sticker or lake Forest beach permit on <strong>the</strong>ir vehicle windshield.<br />
Driver’s licenses will not be accepted as proof of residency.<br />
residents are allowed one trip per day for household debris or<br />
unlimited trips per day for yard waste material. information on<br />
acceptable and non-acceptable material is available on <strong>the</strong> city’s<br />
web site at www.cityoflakeforest.com.<br />

refuse CoLLeCtion sCheDuLes & GuiDeLines<br />
Collection Frequency: refuse is collected twice weekly, on<br />
ei<strong>the</strong>r a monday and thursday or a tuesday and Friday schedule<br />
depending upon <strong>the</strong> area in which you reside. Please call 615-<br />
4264 to inquire as to your collection days.<br />
Refuse Containers: all refuse must be bagged and deposited into<br />
covered lightweight containers not to exceed 32-gallon capacity.<br />
each resident is allowed a maximum of four such containers to be<br />
collected on a single refuse collection day.<br />
Collection Locations: refuse containers are required to be out<br />
by 7:00 a.m. on <strong>the</strong> day of your collection. refuse containers<br />
are to be placed in front of <strong>the</strong> garage. sanitation personnel are<br />
not permitted to enter homes, garages, porches or any enclosed<br />
structure to empty containers.<br />
Household Hazardous Waste: For disposal of household<br />
hazardous waste (paint, chemicals, oils, solvents, pesticides,<br />
etc.) please call 615-4264.<br />

yarD waste sCheDuLes & GuiDeLines<br />
yard waste collection Frequency: yard waste is collected twice<br />
weekly at <strong>the</strong> curb side, on ei<strong>the</strong>r a monday and thursday or<br />
a tuesday and Friday collection schedule depending upon <strong>the</strong><br />
area in which you reside.<br />
Yard Waste Containers: city crews will pick up yard waste<br />
that is placed in store brand kraft paper yard waste bags if a<br />
city sticker has been placed on <strong>the</strong> bag. <strong>the</strong> stickers need to<br />
be placed on each bag to be collected at <strong>the</strong> curb. stickers<br />
are $1.00 each (sold in sheets of five) and can be purchased<br />
at sunset Foods, Jewel, Pasquesi home and Gardens, lake<br />
Forest hardware, and <strong>the</strong> municipal services center.<br />
Yard Waste Preparation Requirements:<br />
■ Branches shall not exceed 6 inches in diameter and<br />
4 feet in length.<br />
■ Branches must be tied with string or twine and bundled.<br />
■ Bundles should not exceed 2 feet in thickness.<br />
■ each bundle requires one city sticker.<br />
