<strong>The</strong> Myrinet network infrastructure can be used to support application<br />
programming interfaces such as the message passing interface (MPI) that are<br />
often used by distributed memory parallel applications.<br />
You can define IP addresses for each Myrinet network interface. You can also<br />
use the Myrinet network infrastructure to support any application communication<br />
based on IP protocols. For example, you can use this capability to support a<br />
clustered file system such as <strong>IBM</strong> General Parallel File System (GPFS).<br />
You can define a dedicated IP subnet for use with the Myrinet network<br />
infrastructure that is distinct from the other IP subnets that are identified in 4.1.1,<br />
“Minimal network requirements” on page 54.<br />

Large configurations of <strong>BladeCenter</strong> <strong>JS20</strong>s require the installation of multiple<br />
<strong>BladeCenter</strong> chassis. To support the network requirements identified previously,<br />
you need to install external LAN switches to interconnect the <strong>BladeCenter</strong><br />
chassis with each other.<br />
