Tourism and<br />
Recreation<br />
TR9 To protect the amenit<strong>ie</strong>s of the County from insensitive or inappropriate<br />
development particularly any development which threatens the tourism<br />
resources of the County.<br />
IW1 To maximise opportunit<strong>ie</strong>s for the use of canals and other waterways as<br />
tourism and recreational amenit<strong>ie</strong>s and in this regard the council will cooperate<br />
with Waterways Ireland, National Parks and Wildlife Service of the<br />
DoEHLG and community groups to develop the infrastructure, quality and<br />
amenity of these waterways.<br />
IW2 To encourage the development of facilit<strong>ie</strong>s for boating, canoeing, angling,<br />
cruising and other sustainable water based interests. The council will<br />
endeavour to provide appropriate access including access for rescue<br />
services to existing water-based activit<strong>ie</strong>s. It will consider all interests and<br />
conflicts that might arise between the various interests in conjunction with<br />
the Eastern Regional Fisher<strong>ie</strong>s Board, the Irish Canoe Union, Inland<br />
Waterways, and local communit<strong>ie</strong>s and clubs.<br />
RP1 To protect and improve amenit<strong>ie</strong>s and recreational assets in the interests of<br />
residents and tourists alike.<br />
RP3 To seek an extension of the proposed Special Amenity Area Order for the<br />
<strong>Liffey</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> from Lucan to Leixlip (which is envisaged by he Dublin Local<br />
Authorit<strong>ie</strong>s) to other parts of the <strong>Valley</strong> within County <strong>Kildare</strong>.<br />
RP4 To pursue the creation of a <strong>Liffey</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> Regional Park together with Fingal<br />
and South Dublin County Councils.<br />
Heritage<br />
NH5 The Council shall seek to conserve, protect and enhance wherever possible<br />
wildlife habitats such as rivers, stream, lakes, bog, fen, scrub and<br />
woodlands, f<strong>ie</strong>ld boundar<strong>ie</strong>s (hedgerows, and ditches) which occur outside<br />
of designated areas. Such features form part of a network of habitats and<br />
corridors, which allow wildlife to exist and flourish.<br />

assist in pursuing this policy.<br />
