A little-used non-invasive way of measuring Ps: some preliminary
results.
The most common-used techniques to determine Ps:
• Tracheal puncture; the best way but not always popular
with naïve, non-dedicated, subjects.
• Miniature pressure transducer through the glottis
(introduced via the nose or mouth); perhaps the least
comfortable method from the subject’s point of view.
• Esophageal balloon (senses Ps indirectly).
• Measuring oral pressure during voiceless stops (where Po = Ps)
