Do you have to spend large amounts of money on a regular basis to replace<br />

<strong>and</strong> calibrate induction loops? <strong>and</strong> having to close the road during this process?<br />

luckily, you no longer have to! Today, many police departments, local authorities <strong>and</strong> private<br />

service providers worldwide use laser-based PoliScan systems from ViTronic. These systems<br />

don't require any induction loops or piezo sensors, which means they don't involve costly<br />

installation or maintenance work on the road surface or any disruption to traffic flow.<br />

PoliScan is a fully-automatic traffic surveillance <strong>and</strong> digital documentation system. With<br />

PoliScan <strong>red</strong><strong>light</strong> <strong>and</strong> PoliScan <strong>speed</strong> , ViTronic has developed optimal solutions for <strong>red</strong> <strong>light</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

PoliScan <strong>red</strong><strong>light</strong> –<br />

laser-based <strong>red</strong> <strong>light</strong> <strong>enforcement</strong><br />

without loops or piezo sensors<br />

PoliScan <strong>red</strong><strong>light</strong> is multi-lane <strong>and</strong> multi-object<br />

capable, enabling monitoring of up to four lanes<br />

of traffic simultaneously. Up to three traffic <strong>light</strong><br />

circuits can be monito<strong>red</strong> at the same time by<br />

each measuring unit. The system documents any<br />

incidents where vehicles cross the stop line <strong>and</strong><br />

drive into the intersection's "danger zone".<br />

Thanks to continuous detection of the vehicle's<br />

position, "<strong>red</strong> time" can be determined directly<br />

<strong>and</strong> accurately.<br />

PoliScan <strong>red</strong>+<strong>speed</strong> –<br />

<strong>red</strong> <strong>light</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>speed</strong> <strong>enforcement</strong><br />

in a single system<br />

Red <strong>light</strong> violations themselves carry a serious<br />

risk of causing traffic accidents. However, almost<br />

40 percent of all road fatalities can be attributed<br />

to a violation of <strong>speed</strong> limits by drivers involved in<br />

the incident.*<br />

PoliScan <strong>red</strong>+<strong>speed</strong> offers a <strong>combined</strong> solution for<br />

monitoring <strong>and</strong> documenting both <strong>speed</strong> limit <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>red</strong> <strong>light</strong> violations. Speed is monito<strong>red</strong> during<br />

all traffic <strong>light</strong>s phases, so that a vehicle can be<br />

monito<strong>red</strong> for both types of violations.<br />

A multi-lane <strong>and</strong> multi-object capable scanner<br />

enables continuous road monitoring. All vehicles<br />

that are visible within the tracking zone are<br />

how does liDar technology work?<br />

PoliScan systems use powerful, proven<br />

laser technology. A fan-shaped field of laser<br />

beams sweeps the tracking zone several<br />

times per second. The scanning LIDAR (<strong>light</strong><br />

Detection <strong>and</strong> ranging) detects <strong>and</strong> tracks<br />

all vehicles in the tracking zone <strong>and</strong> creates<br />

an accurate picture of the traffic situation.<br />

The system determines the exact vehicle<br />

position at all times, even where vehicles are<br />

Vehicles are detected using laser-based technology,<br />

<strong>and</strong> violations are documented using two high-<br />

resolution digital cameras.<br />

images. The systems can be enhanced with a<br />

Remote Documentation Unit (RDU) to supply<br />

as recording the traffic <strong>light</strong> status at the time<br />

of violation. The RDU also documents pictures of<br />

the rear of the vehicle for the purpose of reading<br />

the license plate.<br />

Stationary PoliScan systems include an<br />

optional Communication Unit, which automatically<br />

stores the recorded <strong>red</strong> <strong>light</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>speed</strong> violations. The evidence data are then<br />

transfer<strong>red</strong> directly from this Communication<br />

Unit to a violation processing center.<br />

To guarantee the legal validity of the evidence<br />

data, a hardware key (known as a "token")<br />

can be used, a watermark <strong>and</strong> electronic<br />

signature added, <strong>and</strong> the data subsequently<br />

encrypted. Once the integrity of the evidence<br />

data has been checked <strong>and</strong> the data converted<br />

for the evaluation software, it is archived<br />

<strong>and</strong> sent for further violation processing, for<br />

example, with PoliScan office .<br />

The optional Communication Unit has<br />

additional inputs <strong>and</strong> outputs for monitoring<br />

components <strong>and</strong> sensors.

The City Design Housings comprise several<br />

aluminum segments, each of which can be<br />

adjusted independently. As a result, vehicles<br />

traveling in different directions can be tracked<br />

from a single <strong>enforcement</strong> point. Two Measuring<br />

<strong>and</strong> Documentation Units for <strong>red</strong> <strong>light</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong>/or <strong>speed</strong> <strong>enforcement</strong> can be incorporated<br />

into each housing.<br />

City Design Housings with a single Measuring<br />

<strong>and</strong> Documentation Unit can easily be extended<br />

with an additional unit at a later stage.<br />

The necessary location-specific information,<br />

such as distance from the stop line, angular<br />
