A newcomer to the Nederburg Auction,
Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons is a
partnership wine production, on the historic
French Huguenot farm Fredericksburg,
between the Rupert family of South Africa
and Baron Benjamin de Rothschild, son
of the late Baron Edmond de Rothschild
of France. To produce the finest quality
wine, meticulous attention is given to the
vineyard and cellar practices. Rupert &
Rothschild produces classic, elegantly
structured wine recognised and distributed
worldwide.

A wine of distinction with aromas of
blackcurrant, wild cherry, white pepper and
cinnamon with nuances of dark chocolate
and earthy, tobacco complexities. Elegant
and classic with harmonious flavours and
concentrated firm, ripe tannins.
Rustenberg
Rustenberg has a wine-growing history
dating back to 1682, and by 1781, some
3 000 cases of wine were produced on
the farm. Production doubled by the end
of the century and a new cellar was built.
Wine has been bottled at this cellar for an
unbroken period since 1892. In 1941, Peter
and Pamela Barlow bought Rustenberg.
Their son Simon took over the running of
the farm in 1987. The Barlows have been at
Rustenberg for over 70 years – the longest
period any one family has owned the farm.

A lengthy barrel maturation on gross lees, in
conjunction with natural fermentation, has
allowed the wood and fruit to ‘marry’ well.
The results are a complex array of flavours
and aromas which are continuously changing
as the wine spends more time in the bottle.
The nose shows nuttiness and marzipan with
underlying citrus flavours of grapefruit and
naartjie and hints of white peach. A firm palate
gives backbone to concentrated fruit and the
richness of the wine.

This wine has fragrant flinty minerals, peach
and apricot fruit characters with complex
flavours of green plum evident on the palate.
Characters of sweeter pineapple flesh out
the mid-palate and give weight to the finish.
