Disciple I
Congratulations to the people who completed their Disciple I study with Rev. Statz in early
June. The thirty‐four week study covered the message and major themes of the Hebrew and
New Testaments, requiring an average of one hour of scripture reading per day in addition to
two and a half hours of discussion each week. Thank you to the following people, who have
grown in their knowledge of the scriptures as well as their understanding of putting God first
and perseverance. It is quite an accomplishment earned by the following people: Chris Burns,

Disaster Relief & Assistance Training
The Christian Outreach Committee shares the Congregation’s concerns for recent horrific
weather destruction. We believe we can utilize our amazing facility and talents toward being
available to assist locally when these unfortunate events occur. We have learned that our
Conference has established several churches in NE Ohio to be prepared to lend assistance in
case of a disaster. We would like to be included in that list.
Therefore, RRUMC is planning a Disaster Relief & Assistance Training session on August 3,
2013, from 8am to 4pm, at our Church. The Church will provide coffee & donuts in the
morning and later a box lunch and a t‐shirt. A $30 fee in advance of the registration deadline
is required. Spots in the class are limited, so we would appreciate your early commitment.
This course, with its ensuing badge, permits the holder to arrive at a natural disaster after
the Police/Medical support teams are out of the area. Therefore, the Conference will
perform a background check on all applicants. If you are so moved to become involved in
this opportunity, please contact Mark Bacon, mar11soc@aol.com or 440.333.4442, or leave

How to Help Storm Victims
Many have asked how they can help the victims of the Oklahoma storms. You can best help
those whose lives were changed by the storms by donating to the United Methodist
Committee on Relief (UMCOR). Checks can be made payable to Rocky River UMC, with
Advance #901670 (or Oklahoma) on the memo line; or text “RESPONSE” to 80888 to give
$10 to UMCOR. 100% of your gift goes directly to those affected by this disaster.

Dear Friends and Family of Rocky River United Methodist Church,
I want to start with a verse that I think is very timely for Rocky River
United Methodist Church. It is from Hebrews 13:8 (NIV). It says,
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” I know
that we are in the midst of some major changes here at RRUMC. We
are in the process of saying goodbye to Rev. Christopher Statz after
seven years of powerful ministry at our church. It has been a positive, life‐changing
time for him, as well. He has been a part of many ministries. He has helped church
families navigate their lives. He has confirmed, married, baptized and buried many
family members in this church. He has also taught, inspired, coached and comforted
many of those same people. I am aware of what it means to move from church to
church. It is not easy, but we always hope and pray it is a call from God. Please help
the church celebrate Chris’ seven years here at his last Sunday on June 23. Staff‐
Parish Committee will recognize him and his family at a reception in Jean & Jan’s
Café during Coffee Hour.
Saying goodbye to Chris means that a new pastor is coming. Pastor Paul Bennett
and his wife, Quinn, with their three children, are coming to be a part of our church
family. He brings a lot to the table. He has many gifts that seem to fall right in line
with where our church is headed. “It’s All About The Story.” I am looking forward to
welcoming Paul and his family as we watch the next part of their story unfold at
Rocky River United Methodist Church. Please help me welcome Paul and his
beautiful family on his first Sunday, June 30, 2013.
Remember that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. As
changes take place here at RRUMC, please know that Jesus is the same. He remains
the reason for all that we do as we impact the world for Jesus Christ. Have a truly
blessed summer.

The Cleveland Indians and Guidestone Ohio are teaming up
for the 3rd year in a row to raise funds for children and
families in need in our community. A portion of the proceeds
from each ticket sale to the July 8th game will go to Guidestone. Field Box Seats:
$55; Lower Reserved Seats: $30 Upper Box Seats: $20. Want to enjoy a catered meal

Do you have a burden on your heart for your unsaved friends, neighbors, coworkers

Capital Campaign
In the months of March and April (May
receipts were not available for this article)
we received $40,976 toward our Capital
Campaign. Those are wonderful,
encouraging numbers. Every bit as
important is the fact that our remaining
indebtedness on the Beacon Hall
construction is now down to $171,415. If
you dislike debt the same way we do, then
it is time put it behind. As you are able, slip
an extra amount into your offering
envelope. Collectively we should be able to
reduce that number to zero in a relatively
short period of time.

Malachi House Christmas in July
Malachi House is a home for individuals
who have little or no financial resources
and are in need of special homecare in the
final stages of life. The Malachi House is
solely dependent on private donations and
is currently in need of Lysol disinfectant
spray, tall kitchen trash bags, large black
trash bags, Ziploc freezer bags, paper
towels, toilet paper, postage stamps, salad
dressing, canned tomatoes, tomato sauce,
pasta sauce, pop – any flavor (cans only
please), grocery store gift cards and iTunes
gift cards for their music therapy program.
Pick‐up can be arranged if needed. For

Visit the Holy Land February, 2014
As a close friend of your pastor, Rev. Dan
Bogre, I’m inviting you to join with a
group from the East Ohio Annual
Conference as we experience the Bible in
a new and exciting way. February 10‐20,
2014, we will be traveling with Bishop
John and Elaine Hopkins and others from
across Northeast Ohio on an eleven day
tour of the Holy Land. We will be
spending three nights in Bethlehem, two
nights in Tiberius (on the Sea of Galilee)
and four nights in Jerusalem. We’ll be
seeing Jericho, Caesarea, Nazareth and
Capernaum. We’ll sit on the Teaching
Steps where Jesus taught, stand on the
Temple Mount, worship and take
communion at the Garden Tomb. We’ll
see the sites where Jesus was born, lived
and died. We’ll visit Qumran, the site of
the Dead Sea Scrolls, and much more.
Rev. Dan and I have both taken trips to
the Holy Land and we can attest that
seeing the sites personally adds
incredible meaning to the Bible stories
that you have heard all your life. The all
inclusive price from Cleveland is $3198.
