• Rouse SCholars is a strong program and helpful in getting students to attend HCC.<br />
• HCC needs to keep abreast and stay involved in the latest welfare reform issues. We are<br />
currently working with the department of social services (DSS) through the continuing<br />
education department and HCC has drafted "Jobs First" program ofDSS to train<br />
welfare recipients.<br />
• Technology contains the jobs of the future. Community colleges should play an<br />
important role - day care centers are important in keeping students in school.<br />
• B. Kittleman asked what was happening with the information they had received several<br />
years ago about developmental math and reading courses: there has been a drop in the<br />
number ofstudents requiring developmental reading; math rates have remained constant<br />
(the reason appears to be that students didn't take the courses in high school that would<br />
give them the background to pass the entrance exam); HCC has a high success rate for<br />
getting students through.<br />
