Message from the Chair
8
as Chair of the 50th anniversary
Committee, i would like to welcome you to
our gala “an affair to remember: Drink,
Dance and games of Chance”. Beth torah
has experienced an amazing journey during
its five decade existence. the shul has evolved
from a small group of local families who
davvened in a tiny portable, to a dynamic
and growing congregation with more than
500 families lead by an energetic and inspiring group of
clergy and staff.
the germination of the anniversary gala concept
emerged from a brainstorming session involving the
rabbi, harold Wolkin and myself about a year ago.
the committee was formed last summer and since that
time the members have made a substantial contribution
towards the success of this event. the entire team
devoted a great deal of energy and creativity towards
developing a Mad Men- type theme with the goal of
transporting our guests back in time through the use
of retro décor, music from that era, specialty cocktails,
casino games and scrumptious hors d’oeuvres supplied
by the Park hyatt.
i would like to extend my gratitude to
stuart gerskup for completing all of the
design work for the event. in turn, iain
Mcilveen and sari gorman deserve special
mention for producing an inspiring menu
and cocktails that mesh with our theme and
should please the sophisticated palates of
our guests. i would also like to thank our
marvelous event planner, Fern Cohen, for
orchestrating it all and smoothing out the ruffles. Finally,
the Beth torah staff should be acknowledged for the
support that they provided to the committee throughout
the process.
Beth torah, you are looking incredibly energetic
and youthful for a 50-year-old, thanks to the vitality of
your volunteers, clergy and staff and especially due to
the major reconstruction work that you were treated to
several years ago! We should all be so lucky.
on behalf of my committee, i would like to wish the
shul a hearty Mazel tov on this momentous milestone!
