Embracing Paradox<br />
We live in a world of contradictions. Youth is wasted on the young, abstinence is a good thing best<br />
practiced in moderation and Oscar Wilde’s admission “I can resist everything except temptation” are just<br />
a few examples.<br />
Another word for this phenomenon is paradox – something seemingly contradictory that nonetheless<br />
expresses a possible truth. This season we’ve embraced it as a source of creative inspiration.<br />
Why is paradox so appealing? For one thing, it’s more provocative and stimulating than agreement.<br />
Contradiction gets us to thinking more and is often what spurs us to action. What great dinner party<br />
debate ended with everyone in agreement?<br />
The thought that goes into developing a new line of clothing asks us to entertain both finite and<br />
infinite possibilities. It’s invention and reinvention. It’s bringing together opposites with the intention<br />
of unity. We seek out the moments when either/or resolves into both/and, resulting in a style with<br />
complexity and complementarity.<br />
Paradoxes abound throughout the collection. Here are a few:<br />
* Street-wear for the outdoors and performance-wear for the street.<br />
* The improbably light but incredibly warm qualities of the Cloudcover Jacket, Vest and Trench.<br />
* The parka–for-your-legs nature of the Cloudcover Skirt.<br />

* The countryside-gentleman-meets-funky urban traveler of the Throwback Jacket.<br />
* The gritty chic of the women’s Ghostwriter and Adjunct Hoodie.<br />
* The soft ruggedness of the women’s Dovetail and men’s Throwback Pants.<br />
We’re also striving for balance, which is itself a kind of paradox, hovering between seemingly contradictory<br />
poles – between proven winners and brand new concepts, between fundamental and directional<br />
styles, between inner and outer layers, between natural and technical fibers, between brights, neutrals<br />
and darks.. We believe you’ll find the pleasing tension between the fabrics, shapes, textures and<br />
colours of this season as satisfying as we do. Welcome to Fall ’12.<br />
