Depressions shall be filled and thoroughly compacted. The filter granular material shall be laid over the prepared base and suitable compacted to a thickness of 150 mm or as specified on the drawings. The lowest course of pitching shall be started from the toe wall and built up in courses upward. The toe walls shall be in dry rubble masonry (uncoursed) conforming to clauses in case of dry rubble pitching and shall be in brick work in cement mortar 1:4 in case of brick pitching. The stone pitching shall commence in a trench below the toe of slope. Stone shall be placed by derrick or by hand to the required length, thickness and depth conforming to the drawings. Stones shall be set normal to the slope, and placed so that the largest dimension is perpendicular to the face of the slope, unless such dimension is greater than the specified thickness of pitching. The largest stones shall be placed in the bottom courses and for use as headers for subsequent courses. When full depth of pitching can be formed with a single stone, the stones shall be laid breaking joints and all interstices between adjacent stones shall be filled in with spalls of the proper size and wedged in with hummers to ensure right packing. When two or more layers of stone must be laid to obtain the design thickness of pitching, dry masonry shall be used and stones shall be well bonded. Where bricks are to be used, same shall be laid on the prepared base in one or more layers as specified. When more than one layer is to be adopted, adjacent layers shall be properly bonded by means of

The bond used in laying shall be directed by the Engineer. 9.0 WEEP HOLE Weep holes shall be provided in solid plain concrete/reinforced concrete, brick/stone masonry, abutment, wing wall and return walls as shown on the drawing or directed by the Engineer to drive moisture from the back filling. Weep holes shall be provided with 110mm dia HDPE pipes for structures in plain/reinforced concrete or brick masonry. In case of stone masonry, weep holes shall be 80mm wide, 150mm high or circular with 150mm diameter. Weep holes shall extend through the full width of concrete/masonry with slope of about 1 vertical : 20 horizontal towards the draining face. The spacing of weep holes shall generally be 1m. in either direction or as shown in the drawing with the lowest at about 150mm above the low water level or ground level whichever is higher or as directed by the Engineer. 10.0 Providing & Fixing galvanized iron 150mm (about 6”) diameter water 10.1 General: spouts as per drawings. The item refers to the provision of 150mm (about 6”) diameter galvanized iron pipe water spouts as detailed on the drawings for the draining of water from over the bridge without falling the masonry or concrete of decking or piers, by suitably taking water spouts sufficiently down. 10.2 Materials: 150mm (about 6”) diameter galvanized iron pipe of required length as indicated on the drawings.
