No. 406 13.3 METHOD OF APPLICATION OF COATING SYSTEM The application of the cement polymer composite coating system compresses the following sequence:- Surface Preparation The surface of the steel reinforcing bars to be coated shall be cleaned by abrasive (dry sand) blast cleaning to the near-white metal in accordance with SPC-SP10/NACE No.2-1994. It includes the following procedures. (a) Prior to blast cleaning visible deposits or oil or grease shall be removed by suitable cleaning method. (b) Clean dry compressed air shall be used for nozzle blasting. (c) Dry uniformly graded silica sand shall be used for blast cleaning which should be free from contaminants. (d) Suitable arrangements shall be made in the sand blasting unit to suit automation. (e) During the operation, the pressure at the nozzle shall be regulated as per the supplier’s specification. (f) Dust and residues shall be removed from prepared surface by brushing, blowing off with clean, dry air, vacuum cleaning or other methods. (g) Any visible rust that forms on the surface of the steel after blast cleaning shall be removed by reblasting the rusted areas before coating.

No. 407 (h) The prepared surface shall meet the visible standards of comparisons as in SSPC-VIS 1 or SSPC-VIS2. 13.4 Application of coating: 13.4.1 The coating shall be applied to the cleaned surface as soon as after cleaning, and before oxidation of the surface discernible to the inaided eye occurs. However, the application of the coating shall not be delayed more than 4 hrs after cleaning. 13.4.2 A rapid setting primer shall be applied over the prepared surface of the reinforcing steel either by brushing or dipping. 13.4.3 After 30 minutes of application of the primer a cement polymer sealing coat shall applied either by brushing or dipping. 13.4.4 The coated rods shall be handed after 6 hrs. 14.0 SPECIFICATION FOR PROVIDING ANTI CORROSIVE TREATMENT TO M.S. OR TMT REINFORCEMENT BARS WITH CEMENT POLYMER COMPOSITE COATING SYSTEM (CPCC) 14.1 REQUIREMENS OF THE COATED BARS The coated reinforcement rods of cement polymer composite coating system shall meet the following requirements:- (a) Thickness of the coating : a) After curing the minimum dry film thickness of the coated rods shall not be less than 150 + 25 microns. b) Measurements shall be made using commercially available coating thickness meter which should be specifically suitable for curved surfaces.
